Not sure why this all of a sudden started happening but my MS Outlook is giving me fits.

Every time I open it up I get the small error window that says "A data file did not close properly the last time it was used and is being checked for problems. etc, etc."

After a few minutes it gives another window saying the Check has been complete or somehting to that extent.

The more frustrating part is that every time I re-open it, there are emails that I have already read that still show up as new.

I've googled a bit but not found anything that lead me to the culprit. Anyone had this issue and how did you resolve it?

I was having the same problem in Outlook 2007 and disabling the indexing of the pst file made it go away.

Since Office Service Pack 2 came out I have re-enabled indexing and have not seen the error so far.

If you have Outlook 2007 and haven't installed SP2, do it because it makes Outlook snappier.

Run PST scan on it. If that doesn't work, make a new PST and move all important data over. I had a user that had a corrupted 7GB PST and man was that annoying moving all of the data over.

thanks Silent.

I can try that but I was going through google and saw some posts about the iphone (or itunes) possibly causing this error. Seems that if you sync the phone with Outlook open, this error can come up. I will probably uninstall itunes soon.

I'll give both ideas a shot.

I have seen lots of problems once PST files get to that magical 1.8~2GB size. some will just chug right along being used everyday, but others will die just by attempting to access them. We are still on office 2k3 at work so I can't speak to 2k7 pst issues though.

Small update. Somehow I stopped it from doing it last night and most of today. But now it's back.

Couldn't find a way to do the PST scan????? I googled and the directions said I should have the scan .exe on my pc but I can't find it.

Unless it's itunes as I suspected. I did uninstall it last night but reinstalled it this evening. I did not sync the iphone though.

Could it be anything to do with my pc going to sleep with Outlook open?

Any other suggestions?
