Hi everyone.

Got a laptop here running windows 7 home premium and office 07. Outlook is just checking a simple pop account, but occasionally (maybe one time in 7 or 10) when outlook opens, it'll pop up this error

"Outlook could not create the work file. Check the temp environment variable."

I've googled that and mostly it has to do with the temp folder either not existing or having incorrect permissions. I've checked the temp folder in the registry and it's correct, and the permissions are also correct on the folder.

Any other ideas about why this might be happening? I've uninstalled/reinstalled office, done just about everything I can think of.

Thanks,
-Mark

I'd check the event viewer logs to see if there are any other clues there. Also, have you tried installing all the service packs to bring that old copy of office current?

Yeah, I've uninstalled/reinstalled office completely, installed all the right service packs and all that. Nothing in the event viewer I could find.

Just really frustrating that I'm checking what that error is supposed to be referencing, yet the info is correct.

I would try this, but backup the NK2 file 1st, I have heard of this sometimes deleting the NK2 file.

Start Outlook with a switch > Start > Run > Outlook /resetnavpane
