Outlook attachment problem

When I send attachments in MS Outlook such as word documents they somehow turn into a winmal.dat file. (I think???) Is there something I need to change?
 
Change your Outlook settings to send your emails as text instead of Rich Text which is what it probably is set to. Non-Outlook email clients often can't read it.
