I am trying to backup all of my emails in Outlook so I canview them on a new home computer. I see that there are two different settings, to archive or export. I am curious what the difference is.

I don't want to have to restore my outlook on the new system to see my emails. I would just like to grab one an email or two when needed. If this is too difficult, is it possible to have two instances of Outlook on my machine, one with all of these old emails and a new one with all of my new information?

Ok, I messed up. I archived my email from my laptop, and now it is no longer in my mailbox. I guess that tells me one of the differences between archive and export. Can someone please help me restore this mail so it is in my regular mail? Thanks!

Basically it sounds like you just need to make a .pst file of your mailbox...which is what an archive will do. All you really need to do is run a search for *.pst to find the location of your pst's and copy that to a disk. Once you have it copied to your new machine you will NOT have do any restores or anything. Open Outlook and go to the File menu and choose Open. Choose the pst option and navigate to your copied pst and open it.
