Outlook 2007

I am trying to set up a mass email program for a doctors office. It will be sending out appointment reminders. Can I use outlook to do this or do I need an email server. I've fiddled with outlook before but never used it long term so am unsure. Thank you for your help.

I believe outlook is going to need some kind of mail server to get any kind of email going. Outlook 2007 is going to need some kind of mail agent to actually transfer the email from place to another. Think of outlook as just the program that helps manage it for a user.

Best bet is to just bite the bullet and go with an e-mail service. This will provide you with the reliablity you want.

Well I do have a dedicated email account created just for the business itself use of that with outlook would get me the results I want? Without the email server correct?

How many people do you need to email?

It would be max 20 a day for 4 days. In the beginning it will be more like 10 people until we get more email addresses. What I would be afraid of that I have heard happening is the email provider blacklisting the account in thinking it's a spam account.

20 per day is nothing, you won't get blacklisted at all. A standard email account could be used for that like Gmail or Hotmail. Create a distribution list and obey the sending limits:

* Maximum of 100 people at a time with Gmail via POP or IMAP clients
* Maximum of 500 addresses in your To:, Cc:, and BCC: fields with Gmail via web browser
* Failed deliveries due to large number of broken e-mails (25?)
* Nine-month long stagnant account (permanently disabled account)

Ok, for distributions that small, outlook is doable. Once you get to more than 100 or so, then it's worth looking at outsourcing for some of the concerns you listed.

Ya I figured as much but wasnt 100% sure and was trying to avoid creating a domain.
