Outlook 2003 Question

Sorry, I was going to put this in "help" but I'm thinking someone may stumble upon it and give me a perhaps simple overlooked solution 😀

If I've migrated my aunt's computer (Xp Pro) and set up Outlook 2003 on her machine and I've mapped everything using pop3 with the provider's settings. (It's a little podunk DSL provider in the woods of Mass, but that's apro pos of nothing I guess).

At any rate, we can send email just fine and we can receive it to the provider's home email page (by logging in, not through Outlook). Why isn't Outlook linking with her email? I've already been on the phone with the provider to double check the settings. Also, all the tests run fine. Infact, you can send from Outlook, but when you try to find mail in the inbox, it doesn't hit. There's nothing there. We have to go to the provider's site to actually check the inbox. Any ideas?

Sound like you SMTP setting are not set properly as you can send which is using POP setting but you cant receive which use SMTP settings.

Thanks. If I'm on the phone with her podunk provider and they are telling me what the settings are, what else can I do?

Well yeah, but that's not the point. She wants outlook. And I've done everything I can to set it up right.....

POP is for receiving, SMTP is for sending. Sounds like the SMTP is OK, but something in your POP settings is wrong.

You are so right sorry must have had a dyslexic moment 🙁

Yeah sounds like some pop issue, check out settings.
I suppose you can also try and setup the outlook with another email from them, check to see if you can get anything working. Call tech support again and have them setup the email on their side to make sure its working for them. Just assuming the off chance of some weird other issue.

You all assume I know so much, lol. Thanks but if I ask him the settings. He gives them to me .... and I input them. What else can I do, what else should I be looking for? Speak w/ someone else maybe? He sounded like he knew what he was doing.

ask him to walk you through the setup, I actually used to work at an isp doing exactly what that guy is, yes they usually know what they are doing but they may be forgetting something or there may be another issue.

also, you might want to verify the user name. Let's say the email is abc@xyz.com. In outlook, it asks for the user name and account name or email address. Sometimes the provider allows the user name or login to be just the abc, but other times it's the full email as well. abc@xyz.com. Might want to try those combinations as well. Also make sure they don't use SSL or something on the POP server or a different port.
