Outlook 2003 not always playin sound when mail arrives.

Using Outlook 2003 and i have a "you've got mail" wav file assigned to play when i get new mail.

Ive always done this in outlook express and assigned it to check mail every minute.

That way when i'm not at my pc but i'm at home, i know when ive got mail.

Anywhooo... Ive NEVER had this problem with Outlook Express.

Outlook 2003 will play the wav when new mail arrives only if its a single mail message.
(so it IS working)

But if i recieve multiple emails at once, it just decides it doesnt wanna play the wav file.

Thast really odd , dont ya think?

That is a little odd. Here's another odd thing: When e-mail arrives on my Outlook 2003 it doesn't play a sound from the sound card (I have the e-mail sound turned off), but my computer beeps.

Yeah it's a little flaky with the sound and also with the rules and filters. I turned on the rules that I created but it just grabbed all the spam as well. I had to turn it off.

Oh well all my email comes to the inbox first then after it starts piling up I run the rules.

Check your Outlook 2003 settings: Tools, Options, Preferences tab, E-Mail Options button, Advanced E-Mail options buttton.

Uncheck the "play a sound" box.

I've found that if the New Mail sounds options are off in your control panel settings, turning on the above Outlook 2003 box will cause the internal speaker to beep, but no sounds through my sound card.

(your results may vary...)

There are also sound addins for Outlook 2003 (not just wav files). Poke around the Outlook 2003 site at microsoft.com

Thnx for the helpful info guys.

I downloaded / installed the add-in sound pack.

Now i'll play around with different settings/configs until i come up witha combo that
is more reliable.

Thanks. Actually, that's how I like it: I wanted a sound, but not one that would come out of my music system at full volume.

I'm all fixed now.

After installing the sound add-in pack.

Opened outlook 2003, tools / options / other /advanced options and checked the box for
Provide Feedback with sound.

Its working fine now.

Thnx alot NightCrawler and nineball9 for the help.

It was REALLY annoying me. 😉
