I also forgot my username!!!! so anyways, my laptop running Windows XP Pro has the McAffee software on it. It recently upgraded itself to the 7.1 security center and I believe that's where lies the root of my problem - I can no longer send email via Outlook 2003. All I get is an SMTP error where it says that it found the server but either my port settings are incorrect or my account settings need changing.

I have tried everything I can think of and would like to get your help please in figuring it out. I cannot work as I mainly telecommute for now...hence the urgency!

Would appreciate any help/suggestions.

Regards,

Kaz.

If you have IT staff, get them to help you out. If you don't, you might try a System Restore back to before this happened.

The fastest way to resolve this would be to disable or uninstall McAffee and see if the problem goes away. I've seen that happen several times with McAffee. :(

If you aren't connecting to your ISP's email server, also remember that ISPs sometimes, without warning, turn off home users' ability to connect to any mailserver that doesn't belong to the ISP.

Thanks for the replies - post holidays, no IT staff inhouse for this whole week :(

I wonder if it is some obscure setting in McAffee since it was working last week with the new suite installed but isn't anymore....I will try to uninstall and see if that helps....

any other tips or thoughts?

Thanks again.

Does your company have a web-based email interface you could use instead of Outlook for the moment?

Without you knowing your pop3/smtp/exchange information it'd probably be hard for you to fix Outlook, especially if you don't remember your username. Try what others have suggested regarding disabling/removing the software that may have caused the problem.

I know that at my work place, Norton Internet protection software that comes with our computers screws up the ability to see the network. Disabling it makes everything work again.. :p
