Outlook 2002 and Roadrunner

Hey guys and gals. I'm connected with Roadrunner in NYC. I would like to use Outlook as my default e-mail program because it has a lot more features than Outlook Express (many of which I don't know about, but I like stuff like Calender and things like that). Well, anyhow, I have it configured to Roadrunner's e-mail settings, but everytime I check for mail, it prompts me for a network password. This will happen everytime I check my mail. But it only happens to my secondary account, and not my master account. I've checked the Microsoft Outlook home page, but I don't see any problem listed similar to mine. I chatted with a Roadrunner representative online, and she told me that Roadrunner does not support Outlook, because it is a proprietary product, and Microsoft wishes to support it. Outlook Express (which Roadrunner supports) works fine. I would like to know if there is any way to get rid of this prompt, and what causes the prompt. Thanks for any input.

RR is correct. Outlook Express 5.0 is supported per their instruction book. Outlook 2000 is for a corporate LAN. I use RR in Fairfax County (Northern VA) and their rep told me the same thing. Unless you have a client-mail server situation, you run into problems. I'm not techncial but I know whatr works for me. I run Outlook Express 5.0 (not the 6.0 version) flawlessly under Windows 2000.

I run Outlook 2000 as my default mail client with Road Runner and have several mail boxes configured with no problem. Just because Road Runner doesn't support it doesn't mean it won't work, it just means that their techs haven't been trained on it. I can't imagine Outlook 2002 being that much different than Outlook 2002. Ensure that you have the box checked for "Remember Password" under the "Server" tab when configuring individual accounts. You need to make sure that there are no differences in account configuration between your Master account and your Secondary account. I am sure you have already done this but check one more time.

I use Outlook rather than Outlook Express for the same reason you do, don't give up. I had to jack with mine for a while before I figured it out and now it works flawlessly.

One more thing, you did set Outlook up for a Workgroup rather than for and Individual.....right?

BB- I'll be that's the problem. The workgroup checking. I had a terribler time when I used Outlook 2000 with an SDSL provider (internetconnect.net) but after a couple of months it straightened itself out. However, their mail server had continuous problems.

To reconfigure from Individual to Workgroup you must go to Tools on the Outlook main page, then to go Options and select the Mail Services tab. There you will find a box at the bottom that says Reconfigure Mail Support. It is here that you convert to Workgroup and that gives you the option of configuring several mailboxes. When I open Outlook to check mail mine is setup where I must select the mail account that I want to check for incoming messages.

Thanks a lot sharkb8. I was using Outlook for a while without any problems, and just recently that thing came up that asked for the password. I continually checked off remember password, but it kept prompting me. I'm going to try the Workgroup thing out, and I'll report back what happens.

ojai00- Just remember that after you reconfigure to "Workgroup" you will need to go to Settings-Control Panel-Mail to set up the profiles (mail accounts) that you have set up with Road Runner. As I said, after doing this Outlook will pop up a box asking you which Profile (mail account) you want to load. Just know that Outlook will work with Road Runner. I will help you out any way I can.

Cool, all that sounds familiar now cause I set up e-mail accounts at my work place. However, Outlook 2002 seems different. Now, I'm confused as to what I have to set up. But it's been working so far. I'll dig through the menus and see if I can find anything. Thanks for your help guys.

Outlook 2002 may be a little different, I'm using 2000 but this might help. 2000 can be setup with no mail client (just for using calendar etc.), as a normal mail client, or for use with Exchange Server. If you set up for Exchange server, you can still setup additional POP accounts. When I first started using it I didn't understand this and installed the full setup for Exchange server even though I didn't need it and then added POP accounts. I had tons of trouble for months. Finally I figured out that you need to uninstall the server options and setup ONLY for POP mail. Since then it works great.
