Outlook 2000 - Sharing .pst file

At home I have outlook 2000 installed on 3 computers. I want to keep 1 .pst file on a shared network drive and have all 3 outlooks share this one file.

Is there a way I can configure outlook 2000 to use this shared .pst file as the default pst file?

Two machines are win98se and the other is win2k.

Yes, in a sense it is possible. You can have Outlook 2000 on each machine point to the .pst file on the shared drive. Unfortunately, since Outlook requires an exclusive lock on the .pst file, only one session is allowed. There may be a way to workaround this utilizing another .pst and "synching" the two, but that is beyond my knowledge.

If you do not have Outlook 2000 setup on all of them already, you will need to have the shared drives mapped, and install the "Internet mode" adding the "Personal Folders" option.

How do I tell outlook2k to point to the .pst file? I could not find an option to tell outlook2k where to look for the default .pst file. I tried to do an open on the .pst file, but nothing happens.

A single session would work for me. Currently I import the shared .pst file when I start outlook, then export the file before I close outlook. It works, but is a pain in the butt.

Dear vec,

If you already have a Outlook 2000 configured, try these two places:

Place 1 --
1. Map your shared drive (if you haven't already)
2. File, Open, Personal Folders File (.pst).
3. Open the .pst file on your shared drive

Place 2 --
1. Tools, Services, Add, Personal Folders (last item)
2. Add the .pst file on your shared drive

I'm giving you these instructions from the Corporate/Workgroup configuration, so it may differ from your home settings. If my suggestions don't work, write again and I'll give you suggestions from my settings at home.

I checked my home computer and Place 2, does not exist in "Internet Mode". But Place 1 does, so definitely try Place 1.
