Outlet question

This morning after I went to work the power went out. My daughter was home and she said the power was off for about 30 minutes. A few minutes after it came back on the power in a few rooms went off. It's a very old house and one breaker can control random outlets and lights all over the place. We had the electrical updated like 15 years ago but it's still odd.

So now I have one bathroom outlet, one dining room outlet, one kitchen light, one dining room outlet, one front room outlet, no porch or entry light and one bedroom with no power. Is it possible for all of these to be on one circuit?

If you had the house wiring updated then I expect that they included some sort of GFI (Ground Fault Interrupter) protection. GFI breakers trip whenever they see a difference between current going out and current coming back (the difference presumably escaping to ground). This protection is normally required wherever water is expected to be present (e.g. bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor outlets). GFI protection can be provided by breakers in your main box, however it is frequently provided instead by one special GFI-equiped outlet in each circuit that needs protection. If the breakers in your main box are all closed, then you might want to see if any of those dead outlets look like they have GFI. You'll probably see a trip and reset button. I hope this helps.

I would check your breaker box. Touch all the breakers, even ones that are still on as they can trip and not move until you touch them. I've dealt with that problem before.

Check all the outlets especially the bathroom for a GFCI in need of resetting. If the rest of the outage is downstream of a popped GFCI that would explain the outage.
