out with the old (acura) and in with the new (gtr)

Sick car. I don't have the cash for a GTR but I do have it for the Acura TL. I have an 04 now but was thinking of upgrading. Having a lot of cosmetic issues now (center console broke, lock cover fell off, dash cracks). Did you not like the 2012 Acura TL? I know most people don't like the look but I do like it in general.

I had a 2010. If you like the look I would go for it. Otherwise wait a year for the 2015 model.

I'd wait for the 2015. Acura has taken a beating this generation with their cars and they are likely to put some nice features in the next set to try and improve sales. They prices themselves out of the market on many of their cars this gen.

Congrats OP!

How does this compare to an E46 M3? I mean obviously the M3 costs more to maintain, but how much slower is the GTR?

;-)

Wow big difference from a TL (I have the same one with SH-AWD) to a GT-R. Especially in price. $100k GTR vs $35-40k TL. hehe.

The 2012 TL and newer has new styling which looks much much better than the polarizing style they had in 2009-2011. If you get one, that's the one to get. It also has upgraded refinement from a lot more sound deadning so it's a lot quieter and upgraded interior items.

The sound issue is my biggest complaint with my current tl. I was expecting it be more quiet for a "luxury sports car". If I had the balls to just throw the money down on a used cl600 v-12 I would be in heaven lol. I know I would be get milked in maintenance though... Maybe 2015 TL would be the best bet. Have another 2 or 3 years of throwing ghost car payments into a saving account for a large down payment.

got past my 300mile "break-in" (outlined by nissan) and i did my first VDC launch the other day... and holy shit... not sure I've experienced something like that before despite all the car's i've had in the past

exhilarating is an understatement

Did the break-in procedure change with the 2014 model?

I know with 2013, the break-in period lasted till 1200 long miles. Specifically my manual stated between 300-600 miles "Avoid rapid acceleration in a low gear (1st to 3rd gears) with the accelerator pedal fully depressed. Depress the pedal slowly."

And when I took her in for the first POS at the dealer, they knew exactly how hard I drove the car (like a grandma) and that I did not launch yet. Your car is recording everything.

It's what I would do. The TL loaded was just too close in price to higher end cars with Merc, BMW, Lexus GS, Audi etc... The price point put them into competition with cars not much higher and they hurt this gen BIG time. Sad too because the previous gen TL and TSX really did phenomenal.

Nissan found itself in the same place with the maxima to some degree as well.

Acura is going to have to fight back with the TL in particular next gen. I would at least wait until you see the specs from a car show etc...

don't know... never owned a m3

i mentioned it above... i went from a 03 Mustang Cobra to an acura tl (04) to a c6z06 to an acura tl (12) to a GTR... with a hayabusa mixed in between

the 12 acura, no issues at all... i just get bored quickly

that same warning was given from 0-300 miles, my dealer told me after that all bets were off, go have fun

and yes I am aware of all the recording that is done and the 1,000 mile POS service (which will be soon for me, have ~700 miles on it now)

Here's some fun from the weekend (track was closed 🙁):

Lots of guys are told all sorts of things by dealers. I trust dealers as much as I trust Castiel's future car buying decisions. When it comes to my cars, I always trust whatever the makers of the car say. And in the GTR's case, they wrote:

"Follow these recommendations to obtain maximum engine performance and ensure the future reliability and economy of your new vehicle. Failure to follow these recommendations may result in shortened engine life and reduced engine performance.

Please observe the following types of driving until the mileage shown below has been reached."

There are some GTRs in the run group I am in at the track next month. Should be fun to see. They're not really my style, and I'd not want to deal with the extra maintenance, but I respect them.

Amazing looking car bud. I had a Nissan 370z, mostly cause I wanted a GTR and the 370z was the closest I could get to affording it!

That's really like one of my two dream cars. The other being a Lotus Exige.

tbh, I'm not really concerned (due to what I have read, and from personal experiences of friends of mine whom own GTR's)

what a machine! congrats

thanks!

the amount of attention this car gets is pretty insane... from the people who know what the car is to those who ask me "what kind of car is that? how much was it?"

I feel like an ass... but half the time I'm thinking "leave me alone... I just want to enjoy a nice drive"... esp when people drive right next to me, giving me no emergency exit route; or if I need to get over a lane

Cadillac problems I suppose... haha

Not bashing the GTR obviously. Supercar-range performance doesn't come without some costs after all. I forget how much just the tranny fluid change is. At least there are very good guides online to doing that stuff yourself.

a lot of the maintenance is cheaper going the aftermarket/diy route

as for the tires... I'm used to expensive tires... haha... but the are no more expensive than other performance 20inch tires

To the OP as a fellow GTR owner, welcome to the club!

I almost spilled my drink. M3 isn't even in the same league as a GTR on both accounts. 😉
