That's why you need a script that, if not reset, wreaks havoc.
What a lot of web dev people do is have a script call out to your own website/server and if it is "not found", then the work is "undone". This is done to prevent non-payment after delivery. 😀 After they pay you can go in for some "routine maintenance" to remove it.

I ought to do that. But I still have my job, they have to fire the 2 people under me first.

Why did you have to be escorted? Shove a laptop down your pants?
Because, I have the admin password & remember many users password. I also have the key to the building & server room.
I would be sure to keep any VPN passwords and remote access to use it against them... Just be sure to do it from a hotel in Mexico and mess up their stuffz. 😉

It'd be hard to VPN in, since most big companies now use some sort of Secure ID that changes the pin number every minute. I have one.

We out sourced our Exchange Admins about 3 years ago. And today, we are going to move to enterprise Lotus notes and let them go.

At first I thought those were pretty cool... but they turned out to be a PITA if you needed to remote in from other places on occasion. That tag was bulky.

They come in different sizes, my first one was big, the size of a business card and is rather thick like a calculator. The battery lasted 5 years for that one. My current one is small and I use it as a key chain.

That sucks - were you the one "fired" a couple of weeks back because they'd not renewed your contract properly, but then you sorted it out by the end of the day?

Outsourcing network admin.... that's smart. 🙁

Thats the problem with being an netowkr admin. If your good, nothing breaks down. Management looks at you and says what do you all day. Hmmm lets outsource.

10 min notice is really rude.

Rude, but necessary, just look at all the comments in this thread about screwing up stuff before you leave.

Yeah, but they are from a bunch of toadies who are either being facetious, or have never held a job outside of fast food/newspaper delivery.

I don't even think I could clear my desk within 10 minutes. If they trusted me to work here for the last 5 years, surely they can trust me for another 30 minutes to gather my belongings.

why doesn't the US do out sourcing for other countries?

They do. Canada lost a big chunk of it's jobs to the US when free trade became a reality. A lot of the Canadian workers moved south too, so it wasn't quite as big of an impact.

It is because Bush is a jerkoff and promotes outsourcing. He offers tax breaks to companies even though they move parts of their company out of the country. So not only do they get cheaper labor by moving jobs out of the country but they still get the tax breaks. Why wouldn't they outsource? Not that Kerry is a great candidate but atleast he plans of offering tax breaks only to companies who keep the jobs here in the US.

You don't clear your desk out, they clear it out for you, and you pick them up later on. My roommate used to work for Texas Instruments back in 2001 and they had a massive layoff. They did precisely that, call you to the office, tell you of your layoff, security guard escorts you out.

Hopefully, you also have remote access.
