ok, longer story in short mode.

Went to best friends wedding & reception. I was one of 2 groomsman in the wedding.

Additionally there was the Best Man who was actually a woman. (which was ok, because the maid of honor was actually a man.) So we actually have, the best woman, and the maid of man. (off topic, sorry back to the story)

My Wife and I, the best Woman and husband, and the DJ & her Significant other, all decided to go to a Steakhouse for a late night post reception 9pm dinner at RRR Roadhouse. A very nice steakhouse, comparable to Lonestar or Texas Roadhouse.

the best woman who has been known to be cheap at times, ordered her dinner. Which at most nicer restaurants also comes with a salad and a side. With her salad she ordered blue cheese dressing.

So all was well, including the DJ, who is a 22 yr old female marine, recently returned from Egypt, and was completely drunk, and was just thrilled at being able to drop peanut shells on the floor.

Finally at the end of the night, we got our checks, and the Best Woman is appalled at being charged 50cents for blue cheese dressing on the salad which comes with her dinner. Apparently, where they live, this is never done, and they have never been to a restaurant where it is done.

I tell best woman, we used to charge for it at the hometown pizza/italian place i used to work, but also, places like Red Lobster dont usually do it.

This insues a 20 minute arguement about it, which the other 4 of us are completely embarrassed about. Finally she pays the 50 cents.

Here are the facts, and I want an ATOT judgement of who is in the wrong. (yes its sunday night and im really bored)

1)Salad is a comlimentary part of dinner.
2)No-where on menu does it state about 50 cents extra for choice of blue cheese dressing on saldas/
3)Waitress does not inform best woman about the charge when ordering either.
4)Best Woman has never heard of this practice before.
5)I've been to restaurants before where its done both ways.
6)It is only 50 freakin cents.

Who is wrong? Best Woman or Dum Waitress?

Probably an inexperienced waitress. But was blue cheese an actual salad dressing choice on the menu? I doubt it was, because if it was, it more than likely would've been listed on the menu as being 50 cents extra.

When I used to wait tables, whenever someone requested something that would be extra, I always told them up front about it.

The only time I have hesard of charging for dressing is if you go to a restaurant and buy buffalo wings. Some places include celery/dressing with the wings automatically and others charge extra, but even then the waitress may or may not actually charge it on the bill.

Why would blue cheese cost extra?

The waitress should have said something, but 20 minutes over 50c seems a tad extreme. I hope the woman and the waitress learned something from the experience.

Never heard of an extra charge for salad dressing before. The waitress should have just taken care of it b/c she probly got a crappy tip as a result.

The creamier dressings are considerably more than say, italian, baslamic, red wine/vinegar, etc.

Maybe its just a regional thing...

Everything around here which isnt a top restaurant (aka red lobster, olive garden) or a salad buffet (ponderosa, hoss's, eat n park) charges 50 cents for Blue Cheese Dressing.
I think it must be more expensive than ranch or italian.

None of the dressing were listed on the menu, in fact the only mention of a salad at all was... All entree's come with side salad and choice of baked potato, French fries, or vegetable of the day.

If that was the wording, then typically the salads only come with the house dressing. Anything outside of that is usually extra.

The waitress still should've said something.

went to one place and i got chicken wings (hmm i love them). it said it came with blue cheese i asked for ranch instead. the lady charged me %.50 for it. I asked the waitress about it and she said they charge for extra. i pointed out i didnt get extra i got 1 serving. she refused to take it off.

so instead of a $7 tip i was going to leave i changed it to $6 and told her half was for the ranch and half was for the argument. heh she was not happy.

and nope i have not gone back. man the chicken wings sucked :(

(1) I've never seen an additional charge for any king of salad dressing, including dressing containing blue cheese, however I have often seen an additional charge for blue cheese crumbled over the top of a salad ... which did she have?

(2) This question could go either way ... on the one hand it IS only 50 cents & I certainly wouldn't have bothered making a big stink over it, however if the charge isn't mentioned on the the menu anywhere, she really shouldn't have to pay for it.

Wouldn't it be Man of honor? ...or whatever the male form of "maid" is...?

You can't make a point by being ignorant. 50 cents is only 50 cents, but 50 cents times 100 is $50.....huge fvcking difference then.

My point? The best woman is in the position to just let it go, because it is, in fact, just 50 cents. In the world we live in today, 50 cents is absolutely nothing, therefore it's retarded to argue about an erroneous charge at a restaurant that you'll most likely never eat at again, since the topic does state she is from out of town.
