Out of these 3 PSU. Which is the quietest?

Well I have an Antec P160W and the 120mm fans are silent. I also have a Seagate which I can't hear and thermaltake spark7+, that I'm replacing with a Swiftech MCX478-V w/ a Panaflo 92mm M1A. The problem is the Antec 430 Trupower, it is too loud for me. I sleep a few feet away from my PC and the noise is killing me, so I would like to replace it with one of the above, unless anyone has other suggestions.

Just want any personal experiences you guys have had. Also, feel free to chime in on the HSF and if you have other suggestions let me know.

Thanks all,
DelVonte

Oh and here is the rest of my setup:

Antec P160W
Antec 430 TruPower
FX 5200 (Upgrade after Christmas)
Seagate 80GB
8x Dvd R/RW
16x DVD
Floppy
Audigy 2
P4P800 Deluxe
3.4c
1GB Mushkin 3200 Dual Channel

Why limit yourself to those few brands/models?
My Antec NeoPower is pretty darn quiet. It's got a 120mm fan pushing air through PSU.

Zalman... Zalman... Zalman!
That's the only name you need to remember for Quiet, High Quality power at a Reasonable Cost. 😛

That was an interesting review. I will have to consider a Seasonic as well. The Antec use to seem very quiet, but when I upgraded my case to the P160, the psu is significantly louder than everything else. The Seasonic super silencer looks good. But now I'm worried about the effectiveness of the 1 fan models to help cool my cpu, I have it underclocked right now because of the insane amount of heat it produces.

Thanks again

A single 120mm fan PSU pushes more air out of the case than almost any triple 80mm fan PSUd like most Antec or Enermax PSUs. A Seasonic Super Tornado will improve case ventilation even though it's a lot quieter than your Antec.

Thanks for silentpcreview.com, that site has been a big help. I'm leaning toward the seasonic super silencer 460 and the thermalright xp-120 with the quietest 120mm fan I can find, thanks again.

Defiantly give the Tagan a further look, its at least as quiet as the Zalman if not more so (22dBA). In terms of features and quality there are very few that can compare.

Here are few reviews?.

I was leaning toward the Tagan in the beginning, but no one responded with any experiences they had. After reading the reviews it seemed interesting. But then I ran into this thread @ silentpcreview forums.

The Tornado is somewhat quieter and pushes more air at the same time. If you can do with 400W, get the Tornado. A nice thing with Sesonic is that their fans are decoupled whch makes a big difference. They are the only manufacturer I am aware of that does that (maybe Nexus does it as well, not sure).

Well, I found out that my 430W TruePower is probably in it's death throws. I disconnected every fan in my system and then stopped the two psu fans with my fingers and it makes this loud humming noise and sometimes this klack klack noise. I guess I better hurry up and get that Seasonic.

Thanks again.

I read that same thread before I bought mine. I it think it was a pretty isolated ocourance with some of the first units, I haven't heard of it since.

Nickel020: What exactly do you mean by "decoupled" fans?

I've got a 300 watt version of the seasonic and it's great. I can't hear it at all above the other fans in my case (all of which will be replaced once fedex gets me my stuff later this week) and it keeps things much cooler then my old PSU.

It's also a really high quality PSU. I've running a 2 hard drives, an amd 64 3000 (not OC'd yet) 1 gig ram, a CDRW drive and one of the eVGA Limited Edition video cards without a problem. I was a bit concerned about the vid card since it's basicaly a 6800 ultra power wise, but I've had absolutly no problems with it.

Decoupled:
Fans vibrate when they rotate. These vibrations are usually transmitted to whatever the fan is mounted on, and because of resonance the vibrations generate a noise. If you mount the fan using something soft like rubber so the fan does not touch the case, heatsink etc. these vibrations will not be transmitted and the fan will make less noises. In a silent PC every fan and HD should be decoupled.

Ok, thats kinda what I thought. Tagan dose that as well, I thought Zalman did too?

Well, the last reviews I read of Zalman and Tagan PSUs showed that the fans were not decoupled, maybe they are now though.

I second this.

I read the silentpcreview review and still went with ps, it is silent in my pc. I must not be drawing as power as they were in their test.

One thing I really like as far as sound goes is that the supply can control the system fans based on the temp the ps sees. I have the OEM Antec fans in my Antec case and they are spun down to a degree that they are very quiet. Under load they ramp up and keep the case cool. Sure this can be done with fan controls and thermostatically controlled fans, but this is dead simple easy.

It always depends on what you understand under "silent": Not annoying or (almost) unhearable? Most people at silentpcreview.com consider (almost) unhearable as "silent".
