Nope. The law says that you have 100% diplomatic immunity if you commit a crime in another state. I drive 105mph minimum when I'm out of state.

Either that or they will issue a warrant.

Edit: I can't believe how stupid you are if you don't know the answer to this. Your DL should be revoked just for asking.

some things i read say that your insurance goes up only if you pay (they find out) but that not all states share that information and it may be in your interest NOT to pay. jesus some of you are just insane about tickets. You think he was really keeping the peace by giving a 9 mph speeding ticket with no cars out? No, he's just sitting there knowing that anyone driving there will be speeding and make 100 bucks for the county. how is that so just?

No one commented on your speeding until you made this post. 😕 I don't care if you were going 9 mph over the limit, but I do think you're a dumbass for thinking you don't need to pay the ticket.

In OPs defense, he didn't say he thinks it didn't have to be paid...he was inquiring about whether it needed to be paid or not. A little different.

Also, OP, for some reason ATOT is crazy when it comes to speeding. If you have ever gone one mph over the limit they will cast you out as the devil...for a crowd that is generally pretty liberal I always find this amusing. Religious nuts, George Bush and people who speed are generally hated. Find my thread on speeding from a year or two ago as evidence. I was allegedly going like 80 in a 55 and evaded a cop and I thought they were going to hang me in effigy next to the pedophiles.

you knew the speed limit and you ignored. You made a choice to ignore a law you feel is arbitrary. This is fine - free will is still alive and well in this country. However, actions have consequences and yours is a fat fine.

Not paying will probably come back to haunt you eventually, but again you can choose to not pay. Free will is a wonderful thing, but self righteousness doesn't absolve you from consequences.

I always love that holier than thou answers that most ATOT'ers give when people complain about getting speeding tickets. Apparently, not only do we all make over 250K a year and have supermodel girlfriends... but we never make any driving mistakes as well.

Speeding isn't a "mistake" in most situations. It's a calulated risk. He gambled and lost.
It's not a "holier than thou" stance. It's a simple matter of owning up to your decisions.

Well, 9 over is more than 10% and considering it was unfamiliar roads at night I'd say that its hardly nothing (9 over is the point at which a lot of troopers around here will pull you over for just speeding).

As for bullshit answers, ask a stupid question and get stupid answers. See, now if you would've pointed out you wanted to know if you should pay it for insurance reasons, then people might have been more understanding, instead you act like you shouldn't have to pay it since it was only 9 over, like that isn't a crime.

Should he get a ticket for 28 in a 25? It's a bit presumptious of you to say the road is unfamiliar isn't it? He could have grown up around there, he could have been around the corner from the house of the person sitting in the passenger seat, it could be a flat open area with no houses or trees for deer to jump out behind.

If you people want to take up a cause and give people hell find something better than complaining about going 9mph over the speed limit. The people in the slow lane still do 65 in a 55 around here and I think I live in a pretty conservative driving state.

exactly - you have to pay to play.

OP some of these people are pulling your leg. You made an innocent mistake and no one was inconvenienced or injured in any way; you can avoid any penalty.

Well, maybe. He is breaking the law so you could definitely say that, although most officers won't even pull him over let alone give him a ticket. I'm not against speeding, I'm against people whining about it. You know it is against the law, so don't fucking whine when you get a ticket. That is my issue. In most cases if you're not a dick to the officer they'll be cool about it and won't give a ticket (although like I said, around here 9 over is when they will pull you over solely for speeding). Then again, I've never gotten a ticket and have only been pulled over myself maybe twice (once in the past 5 years and just got a warning and it was for a turn signal which was out on my sister's car). But you better damn well believe I wouldn't whine about getting a ticket if I was speeding.

Maybe it is presumptuous to assume he didn't know the area, but if he knew the area, something tells me he wouldn't have been asking this question. As for it being flat and open, he said backroads of Tennessee, you tell me if you think it was flat and treeless and no chance of wildlife (or other drivers). Just because you didn't see anyone else doesn't mean someone couldn't be there.

Are there worse things? Of course, but is there some reason we shouldn't think people who whine about getting speeding tickets are idiots? Its not like we're ignoring all other stupidity.

i got a speeding ticket on the east coast when i was out there working for a month
never paid it since i was coming back to cali, nothing on my insurance, dmv came up clean.
this was over 8 years ago. but i did get a letter since i had my cali address on my license
to not go back to the state of XXX as there's a warrant for my arrest there about 3 mos after
the fact.

take it for what it's worth

You only have to pay it if you ever plan on going back to Tennessee in your life.

Once upon a time, this was true...but not anymore.

Nowadays, the states share that information between them and Kahleeforneeya WILL be notified that the OP got a ticket...and if he doesn't pay it, Kahleeforneeya will suspend his driver's license until it's paid...with all the assorted fines, fees, and penalties...PLUS the suspended license fees...AND, the suspension will go on his record...and THAT will cause his insurance to go up far more than the ticket will...

I'm a california driver, but was in tennessee over the holiday. I got a speeding ticket. (for only 9 mph over the limit...ugh).

Do i need to pay it?

Will my insurance go up?

Pay the ticket you fucking twat.

You went to another state and broke their law, and now you don't think you should have to pay? How more disrespectful could you possibly be?

Pay the ticket.

OP if you fight it, you'll likely have to return to Tennesse or at least hire a lawyer to represent you.

Either way you're probably going to spend as much to fight it as you would just paying it. If this is your first ticket the your insurance shouldn't change much. I got a speeding ticket about a year ago with no change in my State Farm rates yet. I don't know how old you are but I'm guessing if your at least 25 that would be true for you as well.

You could always just try calling the local prosecutor's office and tell them you'd like to plea down to a non-moving violation and see if they'll have mercy on you. The worst they can say is "no".

They sent you a letter telling you not to return to the state? Come on, seriously?

9 mph over is pretty fast. Especially if its dark and your on unfamiliar country roads.

Have you ever driven a car in your life? I'm guessing not, based on this post.

You realize that locals often go above 100mph on those country roads? Obviously they are more familiar with them (and know where the cops are), but 9 over is NOT fast in any way, shape, or form.

OP: Write it in, ask if you can pay a lesser fine and keep it from getting forwarded to your state, they're usually willing to work with you.

Tell that to the guy (wait you can't because he's dead) that ate the rearend of a dear because he was doing 70 in a 60 and the thing just jumped in front of him. Driving this time of the year at night even doing the speed limit has risks. 100mph at night on any back road is just asking for it. Sure we like to go fast but staying alive is nice too!

You're honestly claiming that going 60 wouldn't have done exactly the same thing?

The difference between the speed limit and 9 over the speed limit is pretty small.
