Funny, that's the exact opposite of our IT department.

Well it is kind of bizarro land with HANA. I can have a bunch of regular SAP boxes (SQL) virtualized on one $14K server.

Now they spring HANA on us and it's like going back in time. Try and tell someone you need a three HANA servers for DEV, Quality, and Prod.

$210K for three systems or 14K for 40 systems...

After bringing some parts of the cube back up, I get like 5 automated emails and then an email from one of the IT directors. It simply said

OLAP cubes are such waste of resources. I am guessing it’s popularity stems from management’s sanguine estimation of its own analytical capacity.

I can see it being used to figure out matrics, but once you know the metrics you are looking for, you build a report.

My last employer used SAP, I used it to track inventory, got halfway decent at it but it took quite awhile, I would rate the learning curve as "kinda steep"..
