Our police could learn from these German police arresting a protester.

The US’ own studies as well as policing research have shown repeatedly that police use of force escalates protests to riots but they still do it anyways. The US is pretty much an outlier in the first world with how we conduct our policing.

The US is pretty much the outlier on all policies. If it wasn’t for our robust economy we’d probably be no better than Russia, barely a 1st world nation.

There are places throughout the US where departments figured out what Policing is supposed to be about

Try to live in reality. Are German so-called "protesters" looting stores and taking advantage of the situation like the ones in America?

Police were reported in NYC to stand by while the "protesters" were looting people's stores. Is that what you people want?

The only thing I'm going is to say is our social dynamic is much mcuh different than any other nation. It's amazing that we have such a melting pot of people, OTOH is can be a difficult thing because we have many religions, cultures, customs, etc. I had just read an article that American officers who patrol the streets of America's inner city don't live there. They typically live out of city limits so there is ZERO connection to thsoe people. They are in turn treated very poorl. We have a system unlike any other country.

Are you saying that because police officers don't live in the inner cities, they treat the people who live there very poorly because of it?

"When police forces live in neighborhoods that are racially and socioeconomically distinct from the areas they serve, the police themselves can start to feel less like community representatives, and more like an occupying force. A police officer who lives out of town, interacting with the resident of a poor or segregated neighborhood, is a microcosm of the embedded racial tensions across an entire geographic region." ~NY Times

This is the article I was talking about.

Basically it's saying that police officers who live in areas unlike their own are unable to relate. And, if you think about it that is so true. Do you think an officer who lives in a middle/upper middle community is going to have sympthany for someone like Floyd? Or will he be looked at as just another thug? Another person that they have tio deal with for the day? Zero compassion.

Now, imagine an officer who lived in the same communtiy as Floyd. They both saw each other on most days. Even on days off from work. Imagine of the officer actually had random conversations with Floyd. Outside on the street. Now, I don't know if that would be possible to do. But, if it were possible imagine the connection both would have towards each other? It wouldn't be perfect. The officer would still have to do his job. But, I bet there would be a lot more resepct by both men.

Right. Even when they're basically required to live in the city they typically all live in the same neighborhood or two. This insularity really seems to magnify an us vs them mentality, especially wrt minorities.
