Our place in the Universe

lol yeah, seen those before. To take it a step further, imagine the Milky Way in that final picture. On that scale, it'd probably be the size of Colorado. 🙂

Antares has a diameter about 700 times the diameter of the sun; about 9.8 x 10^8 kilometers.

Milky Way has a diameter of 100,000 light years. That's 9.46x10^17 kilometers, making it 9.65 x 10^8 times bigger.

If Antares is depicted as 3 inches wide in the picture, then the milky way would be 45,709 miles wide...
slightly bigger than Colorado 😛 🙂

(Oh, the things I do at work when I'm bored and waiting for my wife.)

You're missing a couple pictures in that series actually, the scale goes bigger than Antares.

Ya, this is all that I had in my in-box. I'm far too lazy to either find them online, look the comparable sizes up and use AutoDesk to render them, or ask my old teacher. You all should know that by now 😉
