Our good Canadian neighbors

Although I generally have always thought the best of our northerly neighbors, some of the Canadians on this board who continually bash the US can reflect on this.

I was watching Discovery or History last night and they had a segment on prohibition. When the US passed prohibition, Canada had a similar law. None-the-less, Canada passed a law allowing the manufacture of alcohol as long as it was shipped out of the country. And where was most of it shipped? Across the board to the US by bootleggers. The bootlegging of booze was the number one reason for the emergence and growth of organized crime in this country. Prior to prohibition, organized crime was small potatoes in the US. With the Canadian government's help it became a monster.

Imagine if the Mexican government passed a law tommorrow allowing the legal production of coke, opium, speed etc. as long as it was shipped outside the country. Imagine.

Chew on that you "holier than Thou" good neighbors.

Just wait till the ganja starts flowin' in...

EDIT: For those who are unaware, Canada has a good chance of legalizing marijuana within the next five years (or turning control of drug legislation over to provincial governments, in which case most western provinces will legalize marijuana.) This is a cause for much concern in the US, which hasn't yet figured out a way to label Canada as an 'Axis of Evil' country for supporting legalization. Michigan and other states are already poring over NAFTA laws to see how the US can penalize Canada if marijuana is legalized (too bad NAFTA was designed to prevent trade being used as a weapon!!!)

*YAWN*

flamebait... you'd think you could do better though..

EDIT

LOL unc... it might shut them up for awhile....😀

Oh no, Canadians exported alcohol to the US! AHHHHH!!!

You realize if the moronic law called prohibition hadn't been passed by religious fanatics in the first place, this wouldn't be an issue, right?

Take about over generalizations!

Yup, all of us Canadians do that.....

Then again, have you looked at all the laws in the US? Probably not. I am betting there are thousands of stupid laws...they exist everywhere, not just Canada.

Yep, it was prohibition that caused the skyrocketing of organized crime, not Canadians. This thread is stupid.
