If you're salaried, no. 😀

Meh. I take pride in my work and the product. I work longer because I want to make a good product and provide a good contribution to the team. If I worked less or put in "just the required" effort, I would enjoy my job less.

Didn't read OP or any of the posts, just throwing that out there, but judging from the title all I have to say is this.

Welcome to the age of a fully entrenched social services regime of social security, medicare/medicaid, pensions, etc.

Take away something you need to think and be concerned about, and you no longer think and need to be concerned about it! It is as simple as that!

YOLO = excuse to live like a complete idiot.

It's not the middle ages, most of us are going to live into our 60's and later.. plan for a longer life than you think and still have fun

I'm retired before the age of 30. Everybody talked shit about me, how my clothes weren't trendy or expensive, I didn't have a brand new car, have lots of girlfriends/hookers etc. But I worked hard, was frugal, and now I can do whatever I want whenever I want. I have enough cash to buy a house straight up but currently I'm just traveling. I'm in Japan right now (for three months)...Why? Because I can. I just got done with a few months in Florida. Spring break in Florida is actually very lame, I enjoyed the week of Disney World more.

I now have enough income each month that I'm not losing savings (sometimes I can even add to it). Yes my jeans only cost $15 and only last about 2 years, unlike your $60 jeans that look cool for 6-12 months before they have to be thrown out. And yeah, my standard t-shirts are plain colored and only a few dollars...and I wear cotton underwear. I don't have sluts hanging off my arms or bunch of other stuck up stupid shit arrogant assholes to hang out with. I don't drink myself stupid and I still only own older modest vehicles, but they are fuel efficient and reliable.

And somehow, magically, I still find ways to enjoy life. I know most people can't comprehend it...but I'm smarter than most.

You, sir, rock!

I don't know how you do it. I would kill myself if 1 day worth of clothes was a penny less than $500. My shoes were hand-crafted by artisan shoe makers in China; I paid $26,000 for them

My point behind all this is, my home life would suck if I only made a standard 40 hour/week salary. I'm able to live a superior lifestyle because I work large amounts of overtime.

LOL. At 100 hours a week the question becomes WHEN do you live this superior lifestyle? 🙄

To give him credit, working 100 hours means you could probably live very close to work. If I had $2000/mo to live in a nice downtown condo, I could live 1 block away from work.

1. The world is changing
2. Every generation of old stupid people goes on a "this new generation blah blah blah" rant
3. You are the one overworking yourself for no reason, and your boss is benefiting, not you

1. The world IS changing.
2. This generation is NOT adapting themselves to those changes, nor are they preparing themselves for the future.
3. Thats the way its been since the dawn of time. Its the one thing that HASNT changed.

Wouldn't be impossible. Say you graduate college at 22 and live with your parents until 30. Eight years of salary/raises may average to $75k in a decent job/area. That might be $55k after taxes. That's $440k after 8 years. If you can (and want to) live really cheaply and make some great investments I could see it. I don't think your average person would ever be able to do it though.

And it would all be gone in 10 years unless you plan on being homeless and never owning a car.

Two things:
1. I completely skipped over the "100+ hours/wk" thing the first time I posted in this thread. I call shens. That's over 14 hours a day, every day. If you are ever doing that for more than a day or two, I don't know how you wouldn't hate your life.
2. This is an entirely different discussion if you're talking about salaried jobs or OT-capable jobs. Anyone who works 100+ hours/wk on a salary is just an idiot. Anyone who works 100+ hours/wk on OT is making a ton of money, but doesn't have any time to actually enjoy it. You're going to get burnt out pretty quickly. But you aren't an idiot - at least you're getting compensated for it now, before you die from exhaustion like the South Korean marathon gamers.

If you're not a salesman, what do you do to adapt? Everything I've seen so far on adapting to current changes has generally been along the lines of selling A/C, built in factories overseas with disposable labor, to Inuits; or having a crystal ball to the desired "skilled" jobs required in a few years, and the means to put enough money into training to get a chance at what you saw in your crystal ball being correct.

And I don't buy a word of it... unless his rich relatives left him with a big pile of money.

I'd believe it more if he DID buy property and was using the unit for rental income, plus accumulated a huge amount of savings to live off the interest.

Speak of, you have to be stupidly rich to have your savings afford you an actual income. Out of my ass, 10% annual returns on a million is $100k, which is doable. Find a stable 10% investment is a different story.

Making a million by age 30, I assume you did college and started working by 22, so 8 years. Investment banker or super IT?
