Our home inspection was yesterday.

Some might remember I was asking for advice about floors. After another look at the floors, I found that the carpet problem in the bedrooms is pad related. The terizzo (sp?) in the living/dining areas is just fine for now (amazingly there are no cracks AT ALL!), and the carpet in the bathroom really does have to go. 😛

All and all, the home inspection went good. Some cracked glass planes, and some R11 insulation that could stand to be replaced (and the electric company will pay for a large portion). The range fan doesn't start right up (whoopie) and I found out that there is a SECOND air conditioner unit in the house and it's only 9 years old and works perfectly. When they installed the new unit, they didn't bother to remove the old one. Okay.... 😕

Here's some pictures. The furniture is not mine, it's the previous owner's.

I can't wait to move in! 😀

I never thought I'd be happy about spending 10K cash and putting myself 90K in debt!

BTW: You get to see Ms. Guru (aka Ms. Lois to her students) and a reflection of me in a hall mirror. 😉

/me longs for houses that cost less than $300,000.

Of course, I also live in the Washington, DC area, and IT jobs are plentiful, so what am I bellyaching about?

Congrats johnny! You must be feeling pretty happy! I'm about to go and negotiate my first car deal (I have a car that I bought from my mother, but I've never gone out and played 'let's make a deal'), so if that goes well, I'll be posting here in simlar fashion to your thread 😉. The place looks great. Good luck with it!!

Nice place J.G. I like all those trees on and around your property. It seems like a fair price for a house like that. You and the Mrs. must be very happy and proud.....your first house.
I'm not a very religious man, but the night I moved into my first/only house some 22 yrs ago, after everyone had gone to bed, I got down on my knees and thanked the lord for letting me have this house finally.....😉

BTW..I thought you guys weren't supposed to cast reflections in mirrors...😀

Cool,

It even comes with one of those holographic chess boards like they had on the millenium falcon! 😉

I'm betting that the previous owners were either Asian or elderly. The Lucy and Ricky beds are too cool.

Hope there's a Home Depot near, cause you're gonna go nuts with do-it-yourself upgrading! Looks like a nice place with plenty of room to grow some little gurus! 🙂

Congratulations!

way to go jG..

floor is terazzo. Great stuff. You will be geting new dishes in no time. Max survival is 2 drops. lol

Congrats Jonny. The g/f and I will be in the same boat in five years time.

I just find it utterly amazing how much of a difference your geographic location factors into what you can get for your money.

Up here in corn country, 100k can get you one hell of a nice place.

Just from my research, a house similar to the one you just purchased would probably go for about 65-75k. But, if it was in a Chicago burb, it would probably run close to 110k or so.

Amazing what 2.5 hours of driving time can do to the prices 😱

Jonny - Looks like a nice house! Where I live, you would be lucky to get that big a front yard for 100K, not to mention the house itself and a back yard. I bet your house would run $400K easy.

Michael

Thanks all! Really. I'm really proud. 😀

AMD Junkie: Nope. I'm going from Forest Hills to Town n' Country and conmpletley skipped over Carrollwood! 😉 Ha ha...

You could always terrorize me for bike and PC stuff anyway. I don't bite. 😉

Your house looks great, jonnyGURU! And as good as it looks now it will look even better once you make it your own 🙂 We're in the process of buying a new home as well, but not as far along in the process, unfortunately.

Actually Axel, it's 1963! :Q

The home inspector was impressed with it, though. He said that the way it was built was proof that it was built back when they knew how to build them to last. 😉 I like that. I'm a firm believer of "they don't make them like they used to".
