Our bloody prime minister sucks the big one!

StageLeft

No Lifer
Our Prime minister, mr. piece of junk Chretien is now getting a 42% raise it looks like. He thinks he deserves it because his salary has been too low before (it is being raised to about 260,000). All of our MPs will get a 20% raise. He took office again last year knowing what his salary would be like. What a bastard.

You know what makes the timing of this especially foul?
1) Unemployment on the rise
2) Economy weakening
3) When other people are busting their ass to find a job even he gets a 42% raise?
4) At least in Nova Scotia it seems that everybody is on strike due to lack of funds. We had school janitors on strike for two months recently. The vast majority of the province's nurses are going to strike in June (basically this is catastrophic to health care). Plus I can't remember what other major group has already been on strike this year and some other one is going to strike soon as well. This is partly a provincial problem but the federal gov't is supposed to put in effort in provincial matters and the only time the leader of our country should get a raise of this magnitude is when the economy is doing well, not worse.

I'm so glad I didn't vote for this old fart and "told you so" to you suckers who did.

Would you americans be pissed right now if Bush got a 42% raise? I think so.

So about 183000 before?

How can a person live so close to the poverty level!?! 😛

Politicians like that suck.

On a smaller note: Our mayor and city council just voted not to give themselves a raise because the rest of the city workers weren't getting much of a raise. And our Mayor decided not to run again, I hope our next one has as much common sense.

I wish our politicians were like that. The problem with this punk swine sonfofab*tch is that when he was re-elected last year he even admitted that he may not finish his term and retire before that. As a result he has no real accountability because he won't be running for office again. He probably didn't save enough fore retirement and wants some extra cash.

1) Year 2000 gets re-elected
2) Year 2001 "Hey I'm not making enough. I never have been! I need a raise!"
3) GRRR!!

Don't forget all the allowances and free stuff they get. I hear the average MP has about 23000/year tax free allowance!

Idiots.

Who cares though? he leads a country...has lots of responsibilities...i don't think 260k is too outrageous. he makes less than most doctors...and what country do they lead?
i have no complaints...maybe the job market just sucks out east?

As a matter of fact, I don't think anyone out east OR west likes him. But Ontario people don't seem to mind him and that's where the voting population is

Yeah, I'm with Kami here. Our Aussie PM only gets about AU$300,000, which is about US$150,000. How crappy is that?

I probably would have given the PM job a raise (not out of personal respect for JC though). I wouldn't have given the MPs a raise. However, this is all assuming that they came to us, the bosses/shareholders/taxpayers (whatever you want to call it), first.

The problem is every single damned party in this country does the same thing. We need to have an independent to try and initiate a private member's bill that only allows raises if the people are made aware of the exact details of this raise during an election.

I don't think a raise is necessarily a bad thing. My problem is with a 42% raise! I think thats definitely overboard.

260K is small change and he should get the raise along with the MPs. But the point is that Parliament shouldn't be voting on whether to give themselves a raise. They should appoint an independent committee or something that will look at the matter and simply determine the wage. Take it out of the politicians' hands.

Yup, I think that's not too much, but like Joe Clark(and Javelin) said, they shouldn't be giving themselves the raise. It should be enacted after the next election.

Instead of dumping money on other people to determine if our reps should get a raise, I think all parties should commit to the amount of a raise they expect to give themselves if they get voted in, during an election campaign. They dont have to give themselves the raise but if they do, they'll be held to the amount they gave.

Just say the word and we will trade you our joker for yours.

HAHA! LOL 😀

JC's more of a clown though. A dirty old clown.

<< Yup, I think that's not too much, but like Joe Clark(and Javelin) said, >>

Hmm.. Joe Clark said that? I may have to reconsider my position then.🙂
