There is absolutely ZERO reason for them to brake when they do crash tests. They are testing for worst case scenarios. Braking will only pollute the crash test results.

40mph isn't much though if you think about it. I'd say 45-50mph is the average speed that most motorists go on a normal road...all it takes is someone to fail to yield right-of-way when making a left turn.

Just make sure you're not like this guy...scroll down to the bottom of that page and you'll see what I mean.
