i'm sure it will be fine...the best feeling is to know it will be ok, that's it is just something you need to work through. perhaps there is someone you can talk to about this...I think lots of people go to counseling with a priest or other religious figure often before marrage, right?

Well, we're not really religious, but I suppose we could do that. On the plus side, it probably wouldn't cost anything... :)

Yes I do, and do you know why? Apparently Thumper does!

Err, um... You might have a point there... :( :( :(

I probably shouldn't have menitioned how much life insurance was going to cost me, that might have been a clue for her... :(

So true, so true... She asked me to come over at midnight which is in about 50 minutes. That means I've got 20 minutes to kill before leaving. She said she needed to clean up (shes kinda messy) cause I don't usualy go to her place, and she wanted to have time to relax for awhile. She told me to put on my happy face and come over for a "chat".

;)

Is it any wonder I love this woman? :)

So, what happened with the helicopter? Did you suddenly find yourself in a 2 million dollar rock? That would suck.

So, how does one go about becoming a pilot anyways? Assume the person interested has NO previous experience flying and is currently employed but wants a career change? Where do they begin? And what kinda money do pilots make anyways?
And yes, we're talking about myself. I need a career cahnge. BAD! Something with a bit more zest and adventure.
Yes, this desk is adventurous. I get to fight dust bunnies about once a month, and occasionally my deskchair likes to try n shoot me onto the floor. But, its just not very adrenalizing ya know?

Jesus man, who wears the pants in the relationship? You going to quit a career that I assume involved extensive training because Thumper doesn't like it. You'll end up regretting that choice and her in the process. You sound just like these other kids in these threads. My girl screwed the football team but on ly did it so they would win the game

Hey, I'm fine, she didn't hurt me (much) last night... ;)

Sigh...

I went flying this morning, did a test flight in the (now repaired) 206, both to checkout the helicopter and to get myself back into the mindset of flying (if you don't fly for more than a week, you're rusty for the first 20 minutes or so).

Charters, air tours, corportate transport, etc. Anything someone who can afford $500 per hour wants to do. :)

The weirdest thing we've done? Drop ping pong balls for a contest for a local grocery store on a Saturday afternoon for their grand opening. We dropped them into the parking lot, each had a number on it, some of them were worth cash if you grabbed them. So several thousand people came and the grand prize was (I think) $10,000.

That was wild to watch, after we dropped them a thousand people ran into the parking lot to try and get as many balls as they could. LOL!

Yep, it did suck...

The engine threw a blade and lost about half its power. It is amazing it didn't rip itself apart completely, thankfully they are well built.

Of course that partly explains why the engine costs $80,000. :D

The very short answer (cause right now I don't have the time to type a long one) is, find a local flight school and start taking lessons. That is all it takes.

Be A Pilot $49 intro program

Take a look at this web site, it has lots of good info.

No, I'm not going to quit, but she isn't happy about this, not one bit.

I won't work there too long, probably just until Summer when job prospects will be better.

I don't see how this situation can be compromised. Either he flies, or he doesn't. And if he doesn't, she is ruining what he loves to do. And I think that is very selfish of her.

Unfortunately, in Canada any way, helicopter pilots can't qualify for life insurance. That's why people...put life insurance on your kids, so it does'nt matter what they do they will always have it!!

Sorry, back to the issue. If flying is what you love, then if she wants to be with you, she needs to understand that. Bare in mind though...she may not understand that. If it's an issue now, it will be an issue even if you get married and that's when the real complicated stuff comes in. Don't just brush it off as a agree to disagree....solve the problem!

Solve the problem? Ok, great! Help me get her over her fear of my dieing in the helicopter. :D

It isn't a logic thing, she knows it is safer than driving, but that has nothing to do with it. She just has this emotitional feeling that has no basis in reality, other than the feeling is real to her (which makes it imporant naturally)

Sigh...

Simple. She asked him to look elsewhere for work, not to go back to the job he was almost killed. He has stated he will, as soon as he reaonably can, due to the economy, he just can't find another job that easily right now. See the compromise they are working towards?
