Ouch. (Colosseum tastes blood for first time in a thousand years?)

Slightly odd way they report this story, IMO - as if this were an act of wanton vandalism rather than a horrible accident (albeit slightly self-inflicted, I guess?)

Suppose the fence might have been there for a reason, you think he got the point?
I'd say he...stuck his landing.

When I visited that place, a lifetime ago, it was closed because a crazy Italian guy had climbed to the top of it and was threatening to throw himself off (because his wife wanted a divorce, I think it was, from what someone in the crowd said). A big crowd gathered and the fire brigade and police milled around for a bit, till after a couple of hours of shouting and gesticulating by all concerned, he changed his mind and climbed down again.

At least he didn't kill his wife. Because we hate ourselves and don't know it and seek the love of others because it puts a bandage on that, when we get dumped that buried self hate wants to surface and get revenge for our ancient psychic wounds. Of course men and women will continue to kill each other over break ups, or need to be committed or painfully recover, because the last thing they want to feel is that earlier pain of being told they were unlovable and worthless children.

While the crowd shouted: Hurry up and jump, you fucker…I’m gonna miss my bus!”

Oh wait…it’s Italy, not NYC or Chicago.

Now MAGA will say that "God" wants blood and new battles in that place and wants to storm there bringing new illegal battles.

Fixed, also MaximusFAFO.

Hope you enjoyed the Colesseo, I always liked going there. Don't know if they still do it, but when I live in Rome* back in the 90's, they would make one of the big historical places free for a year. In 95 it was the Colesseo, which was only about a 15 min walk from our flat. Sometimes I would go there in the morning with a coffee and a newspaper, jump up on one of the large blocks inside, and sit in the sun relaxing and reading. Got a lot of interesting looks from various tourists. The next year the Foro Imperiali was free.

More on topic, my friend and I once jumped a fence near the castle in Edinburgh* to try to cut through a section of the park that was closed because we were drunk and in a hurry. When my friend went over, he accidently put all his weight on one of the spikes and it went through the bottom of his shoe and his foot, luckily it went between the bones. The emergency room doc said it wasn't the first time he saw it happen.

I went to go help him, but I ended up breaking a toe when my shoe got caught in between the spikes and I pretty much face planted as my body continued over but my foot stayed firmly on the fence. Good times.

* After finally finishing college (7 year bachelor's), I spent a number of years backpacking/hitching in Europe and visiting family.

I still regret that when I was there I devoted more time to Herculaneum, because someone (wrongly) told me there was more to see there than Pompeii. Then I didn't have enough time left to see more than a fraction of the (huge) Pompeii site. Always thought I'd go back one day (perhaps after reaching pension age) and do it again 'properly', but declining health (and Brexit) meant it never happened.
