Otterbox Commuter users - how does your phone look after a while in the case?

I work in pretty much the worst possible environment for a mobile phone. I've scratched two Gorilla Glass screens on my Droid 2 (first phone was replaced because of a volume rocker defect). When I got phone #2 I bought an Otterbox Commuter case, hoping that it would provide an additional layer of protection.

I had to do a battery pull this morning for the first time since I put the case on. I noticed the phone was scratched to hell from the case - this this the norm with the Otterbox cases? I just ordered a new phone (Razr Maxx) last week and an Otterbox to go with it - if it's just going to damage the finish on the phone, I'll probably just send it back. I'm wondering if it might be better on the Razr because it's not a slider phone and the case should fit better.

It will probably be better since it isn't a slider.

But with any case, if dirt gets down in it, it can start to rub against the device just by being in the case and that causes your scuffs. Might be a good idea to still pull it out every so often and clean out the inside of the case.
