We all like to rag on the other tech forums here and how stupid they are from time to time. So did my usual tour this morning and first thread I read I got this:

For those that don't know, the "extension" in question is an in-house product of the site's in order to drive referral/affiliate revenue to the site since they lost their affiliate privileges (or at least had them cut significantly) by Newegg... so they're trying to force/drive clickthrus to their Amazon affiliate account instead.

But that's neither here nor there. Just wanted to share the irony of an unsolicited popup ad bearing a product which touts an extension which promises no not spam you with unsolicited popups.

lol why did they lose their Newegg one?

I'm not sure honestly. I stay out of most of the trash on that site (which is just about everything). I think that Newegg might not have cut them completely, but rather have "reduced" their affiliate program payout. Given the proprietor of that site simply doesn't give a shit about anything but revenue (for example, just mention the words ad blocker in a post and you'll be permabanned) this may have just been a logical shift. You know... chasing the dollars.

I was ban many moons ago and I had all but 3 posts fuck that site.

something about most of their referrals were return business they felt they would get anyways, so they cut their referral revenue

the extension is actually pretty sweet

amazon has some great prices on tech stuff(and I have prime), but their site setup BLOWS for searching through it

this fixes that problem

not sure how you got a pop up though OP, I havent had that and I am there a few times a day

of course, my main browser is IE not chrome

It does say the Chrome extension is free and specifically removes NewZon ads when it's installed.

Irony not found. The purpose of the extension isn't to remove pop-over ads. Reading comprehension?

Obviously. But I understand how you could be confused, so it's okay.

You give the users of this forum way too much credit. There's plenty of stupidity here. There's no need to go to another forum to find it.

Seeing ad's to begin with is your first mistake. 😉

Yeah, it confused me since I run ABP. But since that's an "in-house" ad it probably came off their own script server, so an ad blocker likely wouldn't tag it anyway.

Ahhh, try using NoScript and see if that blocks it.

Those two combined works wonders.

I use it. Works well since Amazon's descriptions are basically useless. CPU tech specs might as well just say "it's a processor".

A site has to do what it can to bring in money. Anandtech dicks with every commercial link posted so they can get the click revenue.
