1) Is and ATV legal on the road?
2) Is a go cart legal if it's fast enough?
3) For a dirtbike, do I need a special license, or just one that has mirrors?
4) Scooters are too slow and look funny, so don't offer that
5) motorcycles scare me

ATV's, legal or otherwise, are not designed for pavement. Most lack a differential meaning that when you try to turn on pavement the two rear wheels continue to go the same speed and bad things happen.

Go carts are too short = can't see them = death.

If a dirt bike is street legal it is called a motorcycle and you need a license.

Scooters require a license.

Motorcycles are scary.

Get a bike, exercise is good for you.

I finally saw somebody riding a segway in public the other day. Looked pretty damn quick. But where the hell are you gonna put it at work? It takes a lot of space and it's heavy.

Bicycle is the only affordable and logical option if you want alternative transportation that requires little to no maintenance.

I'm so glad the city has great, free public transit here. There is a bus on constant loop that runs literally right at my doorstep downtown during class hours and the PRT system is at least a novel idea (only held back by antiqued controlling systems and limited hours of service). I don't know what I would do if I actually had to pay for upwards of 12 hours of parking a day.

Edit: added a link to limit confusion

THe buses suck and plus you don't look cool riding a bus like you do if you're on a dirt bike or ATV

If you see someone stopped at a redlight blinking their right turn signal (assuming they have one to be legal) in a dirt bike or ATV, do you really think they're cool? Something to think about..

Actually I think they're really cool, basically as cool as the people who list their PC specs in sigs and stuff

You can get a cheap motor cycle for not much over what...2k?

And cars are cheap too, go find a beater on CL for under $1k.

ATV's are ridden all around here... after it has snowed 3 feet and all other methods of transportation cease to work.

QFMFT. I just picked up a road bike a month ago and started biking to work (12 mile round trip) and I'm in love. Knocked off a few spare pounds, feel great when I get to work, and save on gas. How can you lose.

The sig was clearly a pragmatic move, as a preemptive answer to the constant "it would really help if you posted your entire rig" when I was asking questions as a nooby to DIY.

With that in mind, what practical purpose would driving an ATV on the road serve?
