OTA 4K

My brother just got his first HD TV and he got a 4K model. He only gets OTA and uses an older Roku. He says the 4K broadcast (OTA) TV signal is incredible. I didn't even know they broadcast in 4K. For anyone who uses that, is the picture really that much better than 1080? I'm stuck with no OTA signal where I live, and cable is mostly 1080i.

the US is not broadcasting 4k OTA. He is getting the benefits of 2 things:
1) Less compression of OTA vs. CATV (HD OTA: up to 20Mbps, HD CATV up to 12Mbps)
2) 4k upscaling of the TV.

but as long as he is happy 🙂

4K OTA will not come until ATSC 3.0 is in use

Oh, I see. Thank you. I'm in an apartment facing the wrong direction and the rooftop antenna was out years ago. They don't want to fix it as they seem to have a partnership with Frontier FiOS.

I also hear that studios are reluctant to move to 4k because it would have increased cost but rather want to do a lower compression 1080p stream with possible HDR support. Nobody really knows what's going to happen with OTA signals.
