OT Woodworkers: Shaper cutter brands.

Thoughts on brands? I need about 60' of 8" baseboards. The box stores are $2.50+/ft. Figured I could buy a set and cut my own for not a lot more $$.

My Bandsaw is a grizzly and it works pretty good. I don't have any experience with their Shapers.

sawmillcreek.org and lumberjocks.com are the two sites I go to for my woodworking fix. Might be worth checking out their recommendations there.

For 60' I would go with Grizzly.

Cheaper??? Depends on what you can get the boards for. Odds are you would end up with better baseboards if you can buy slow growth lumber.... It will take time though.
The main reason to do it is get the cutters. Over all it won't be cheaper than the big box. May not be worth the effort.

Bro in law has a band saw lumber mill and cuts trees as a side job. It does nice work but I didn't plan ahead so that he would have some handy and the wife wants the job done in the next 2 weeks.

Thanks.
Cut them out of what?
The other ones I replaced, I used 1"x8" "whitewood" board. I did a simple round over with the router to match the rest of the house. This is going in the dining room and thought I'd give a little more effort.

Well shipping on the cutters would add time to the job... you do have two weeks though. I have used the Grizzly face moulding cutters and have one that has ran about 300' of white oak and it is still in great shape.

Guess it all comes down to how bad you want the cutters🙂

It is nice to let everyone you did the moulding when they tell you how nice it looks.

That's pretty good, imo.

Brag? Me? Yep. I'll be posting my fokker bi-plane in the next week, I hope.
