OT: Why are rebates called MIR? Shouldn't it be MR?

Isn't a Manufacturer's Rebate = MR

Can someone tell me what M I R means??

MIR seems like it means Manufacturer's Instant Rebate.. which we all know is never the case...


If MR is the correct terminology then can we pleae stop typing MIR?

Usually the store gives instant rebates. If the manufacturer does it, that's like lowering the price all around.
