1 week on the Outer Banks of North Carolina with my dad & 4 other guys. The weather was beautiful & the fishing was good.
We stayed in Kill Devil Hills, right next to the Wright Brothers Memorial. Me, my dad & one of the other guys went to the museum on day to check that out. it was very interseting.
We had about an hours drive South to Cape Hatteras to go out on the charter boat. Here's the boat we went out on, a 51 footer.
Day 1
10 Dolphin (Mahi-mahi)
1 Albacore (i think it was an Albacore, though i don't exactly remember)
A little over 100 lbs of live weight fish. It was very windy that day & had a very rough ride. 12 foot+ waves by the end of the day. We came in early.
We saw 4-5 porposes swimming along side the boat on the way out. That was pretty cool. Couldn't get a picture though.
I think we were about 22-25 miles out.
Day 2
10 Dolphin (Mahi-mahi)
3 Yellowfin Tuna
1 Wahoo (53 inches long, 43lbs)
A lttle over 200 lbs of live weight fish. Much better day out on the water, about 3 foot waves i'd guess.
I know i lost 2 fish on this trip & some others did too, so we would of had an even better catch if we had got them all in(assuming they would of been legal).
The others guesstimated we were about 30-35 miles out.
Saw what the 1st mate said was a giant sunfish. I only caught a glimpse of that though.
Here's another pic the marina put on their site.
Bottom left pic.
They took about 3 or 4 pics of us, but in the one they decided to use i'm standing behind the guy holding the Wahoo. You can just see the brim of my baseball cap.
In the top left pic, that was a 110 lb Tuna. Man, that thing was huge!
Anyway, we had a great time. I'd definately do that again
