After getting nothing but rude comments in the Software forum for recommendation for a web page editor I'm turning to the enlightend (and not so rude) DC folks. So who here with a Mac does web design? A friend of mine is looking into making his own web page for his small video business. Can anyone recommend a good web editor you can run on OS X? Free would be great or at least a demo of a commercial one that is not too expensive.

I would like to get an application that is graphical, but still has a code or text view. Something that is easy to learn. I would prefer it to be Carbonized but it's not required. I would prefer to not have something that runs in pre OS X.

Thanks guys!

Dreamweaver is simply the best choice. I personally use it on my Macs. I would look into getting the Dev Studio. That should set you up with everything you need.

Is there anything else besides Dreamweaver. I've used it before and it's great but WAY more than he needs for a simple web site. Also the latest version only runs on OS X 10.2 and he only has 10.1. Finally the $399 price tag is too much. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Hmm let me think.... I cannot come up with a comparable item. :( One option would be see if you can get a copy that will run on 10.1 off of ebay. It would be an older version so the price should be less...

Also its OS 10.2, not OS X 10.2. :p I always forget people have to pay for the upgrades. :( I am a developer so I get them free. :)

Hey mikecel79

I've never used a Mac before, but I found this with Google, hope it's what ur looking for. ;)

Checkout the Web Editors on the PureMac.com site, or PureMac.com itself for other cool Mac software.

I'll just have to keep looking then. There's got to be something simple out there.

Thanks, I had seen that page but most of it looks like Pre OS X which means he would need to load up OS Classis to run it. We are trying to avoid that if possible. I'll still look around on that site. Wish I had a Mac here to try this stuff out before I went over there and did it. Thanks though!

I do most of my web editing with ViM, of which OSx apparently has a copy. I'm guessing you're not into writing pure HTML, though.

You might try Mozilla, which I've never tried but I guess would be like Netscape was.

If you want a good HTML editor you could use HyperEdit. It's a great program.

And, another great one is, even for a lot of other programming languages: BBedit.
I use BBedit to program PHP or Perl and HyperEdit for HTML (Although BBedit could also do html..)

Both are not for the classic environment, but for the newest OS X version(s)..

Good luck!
