OT - W98 question

Michael

Elite member
I tried the OS forum and received no answers ...

I only have about 400 MB of space left on my C: drive. When I download, W98 appears to save the file on C: first and then copy it to the target drive. I have plenty of room on my target drive, how can I set the default "cache" to another drive?

thanks,

Michael

Michael,

It's first saving them to the "Temporary Internet Files" folder under the Windows folder. I don't think there is any way to change that.

Michael,

Yes, you can change the setting for that; in Internet Explorer, go to Tools then Internet Options.

On the General tab, in the middle box titled Temporary Internet Files, there's a Settings button, click that.

Amongst the options there, you can Move that Temporary Interney File folder to another location, even a completely different drive - I've done it here to test it and it works fine. One note though, be wary of the size settings on the folder.. it may take quite some time to make the move if it's set to a large value.

BTW, this is on IE 5.0, I suspect this will also work on 5.5 as well. 😉
