OT - Tech Support Horror Story

I could write a book on what happend this weekend but I will just share a quick little snippet! I was halping a neighbor install SBC Yahoo DSL. Can't just use a router at first since you HAVE to install their software to sign up and get a user name and password. So we do and we keep getting a server unavailable message. Called tech support.......
me "I keep getting server unavailable"
him "Hmmmm......Looks like it is up"
me "Everything looks right, I have a connected light on the DSL modem"
him "Oh, it is probably your network card, you should try to replace that"
me "No, that is not it.
him "Are you sure, how would you know"
me "Well I can get into my router and ping the others computers on the LAN, that is how I know"
him "Ping????"
me "LONG PAUSE...............let me talk to someone else please......in fact let me talk to your supervisor"
him "Fine, whatever"
sup "Hello"
me "WTF was that (explain situation and what was said"
sup "Oh, Sorry he is new"

LOL This was great. This was Saturday, their registration server was down all that day, all Sunday and is still down now.

My Neighbor tried to call tech support also. One person had him dump out TCP/IP from his network properties and could not get them back, the next teck told him that TCP/IP needed to be installed and the only way to do that was to reinstall windows.

We are having lot's of fun. If they would only let us sign up and get a user name and password over the phone I could just configure the router and be done! But noooooo!

F***ing T***ers! :disgust: ,lol 😉

Hope you can get it sorted!

Btw ,you should of wound him up about 'ping' 😉hehe

sounds like the tech support for telocity

it took them 3 months to get me connected then they had to send out a repair tech to "fix" the job he did on the lines.then because they changed the numbers on the line i had to send in the modem for another one finally got it running the next day it went down and was down for 5 more months. the day i finally got it working again i got a bill for 5 months of service.after much haggling i got three months free plus reimbursed for 186.00 (line repair that they fubared) and 250.00 credited to account.then the next month they went under and the new company wanted 8 months back pay for my dsl.i cancled the c/c and fought the charges.5 months later they finally? realized their mistake(they found all the trouble tickets) and sent an apology and a renewal form for me to resign up with them.
they had me reset everything so many times i could do it in the dark lol.

i went to msn instead the two times i had dsl quit they have called to confirm that my dsl was back up(1st time 1 hour 2nd was 12 hours)they even credited my account two free months for the inconvience.

good luck hope it goes better for you mofunk

I would like to know how that person got that job? You learn what a ping is in any first year class. Be it highschool or college. And if he has ever played a game I would think he would know what that was.

I have about 10 good stories from dell support. Lets just say in one of them I got a new motherboard and CPU becuase the windows install was corupted.

So let that be a note to you, if the tech support person is going in the direction of new hardware let them! I just went along and got a new CPU. Went from a P4 1.6Ghz to 1.8. 🙂

That is great! My father in law won a laptop from NEC about 4 years ago. When he got it a piece of plastic was broken in the slot you slide the floppy and cd drive in and out of. He called and they sent him a new one. Never gave him instructions where to send the old one. Called and left messages and send numerous e-mails. Well he gave me the laptop and I fixed it. 🙂

Don't you just love dumb companies. 🙂

I had a similar problem, I bypassed it by using my modem to dial up to the internet, and for some screwy reason it would let me register there. after I was all registered and ready, I disconnected the modem, and plugged in my dsl without any more problems. maybe this will help you since is sounds like the same issue. 🙂
