Here's the message that I'm getting (after doing the mandatory restart after installing Easy CD Creator 5.0 Platinum) -

*** STOP: 0x00000050 (0xFFFFFFF0,0x00000000,0x8044EFC5,0x00000000)
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

*** Address 8044EFC5 base at 80400000, Date Stamp 3ad77869 - ntoskrnl.exe

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen,
restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow
these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer
for any Windows 2000 updates your might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware
or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart
your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then
select Safe Mode.

Refer to your Getting Started manual for more information on
troubleshooting Stop errors.

I restarted my computer to see if that worked - no luck. I tried to start it in Safe Mode in order to remove the newly installed software (Easy CD Creator 5.0 Platinum), but I got the same exact error. I checked in my BIOS settings, as instructed, but had no luck in finding a setting that I could change. I am at a loss as to what to do now, as I seem to be stuck at this BSOD. If anyone out there has any ideas that I could try, I'd be GREATLY appreciative. Thank you very much in advance.

- Eric

EDIT - I have had Easy CD Creator 5.0 Platinum running just fine on this computer before. I just had to uninstall it for awhile to free up some space and now I was trying to put it back on.

I see the "Enable Boot Logging" option and selected it - how do I view the log? It gave me the same Stop error when I tried selecting it (during the graphic Windows loading screen - halfway through the progress bar).

Boot into safe, can you get there?

if so, look on your C:\ drive for the resulting text file

I can't get to Safe Mode even - I can select it, it goes to the graphic Windows load-up screen and BSODs on me half-way through the progress bar.

That's what I was figuring - I was just giving the details of how it happened in real time... This is my dual Athlon MP 1600+ system too! :Q

Never done a repair install before - you guys might have to help me out if I have troubles. I'm going to try now. I'll ask if I have any questions...

EDIT: I'm REALLY glad you guys are around for this one. I'm sorta SOL if I don't have a computer. :D

There are known issues with Win2K and CD creator 5 platinum that are not cured until you download the latest version from roxio.

Here is a linky to Roxio that talks of some of the problems.

Here's the screen I'm on right now:

Windows 2000 Professional Setup
=======================

Windows 2000 Repair Options:

-To repair a Windows 2000 installation by using
the recovery console, press C

-To repair a Windows 2000 installation by using
the emergency repair process, press R

If the repair options do not successfully repair your system,
run Windows 2000 Setup again.

Which should I choose?

The next screen is Manual Repair or Fast Repair... Suggestions?

EDIT: I assume Fast Repair, but just to be on the safe side I figured I'd ask.

If you can hit F8 and get to the menu without it failing, click--"last known good configuration".

Sounds like to me a critical driver file got messed up or over written.

Try this Parallel install:

1) Install Win2k pro again by booting from the CD
2) Install to a different directory (not winnt) try winnt2
You will notice it will add a second entry to your boot loader list, remember which one is which (new/old)
3) After you get the OS running, apply sp2
4) copy the drivers(/winnt2/system32/drivers) directory from the new install over the top of the drivers directory of the old install (/winnt/system32/drivers)
5) if it asks you to overwrite say "yes to all"
reboot and select the original boot location.

Let see what happens!!

You didn't just add more memory to this PC recently did you?

He also might consider trying a CHKDSK/R at the recovery console prompt. I've had that fix me a time or two.

But has he tried the Recovery Console? AFAIK, that doesn't involve Safe Mode booting (or maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about ;) ).
