I am thinking of picking one up for the garage. I have a hub out there, but this has a degree of coolness that a hub cannot satisfy!

Well I went here link because I have WinXP running so I wanted to see if it is WinXP compatible. It says Plug and Play for Windows 9x and all other PNP plattforms and also Network Compatibility: NOVELL Netware, LAN Manager, Windows 9x, Windows NT, Windows for Workgroups, SCO Unix and more.

So do I assume that WinXP will work with this. Before I buy it, I want to make sure.

I'm not the authority on this but with my experence most everything that works for win 9x works for Windows XP.

Is it a switch or a hub? It says it's a "4 port switch hub card." A hub I could do without, but a switch would be nice. :)

Nevermind, I see it's a switch.

I suppose the disadvantage of this is that you lose connection with each machine if the machine this card is in goes down. :(

I guess the PC will just see one port, all the switching will be done in the card, so it should work on any OS..

Just my thoughts though, haven't looked into it

That is acutally pretty cool. I would rather mod a 8 port intot he back of a case, but that is me :) This does not requre any metal work, and will definately get more attention at a LAN than someone who can cut up steel.

I've got an ISA based 12port Intel 10bT hub on a card here. :D

EDIT: Okay, so it has a cable-thingie that plugs into the card so it's not as pretty as that switch, but it is functional. ;)
