Hi all! I recently received a knife from my gf's mom, and I'm trying to figure out what it says. The gf's father supposedly picked this up in the Mediterranean somewhere when he was in the Navy, but he has passed away and so we can't ask him. Knowing that we have people here from all over the globe, I thought it'd be a good idea to ask here. See link below:

Knife Inscription

If anyone has any ideas please let me know! Thanks!

That was my initial thought as well. Unfortunately, I don't speak Greek. Hopefully someone will wander in and give it a shot.

It's probably one of the Centum language: http://www.columbia.edu/itc/mealac/prit...erview/indoeuropean/ielangswestern.pdf (.pdf file)

If that narrows it down. Then again, I could be wrong =p

A few of those characters are weird, though; haven't seen them before.

Here's a good representation of the Greek alphabet if that helps, but some of the characters are missing so the knife is either of an older rendition of the language, or a different language: http://www.usna.edu/NAOE/greek_alphabet.htm

Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if someone here could read it. The other thing you could do if you have a college nearby is go the foreign language or classics department. You might find someone there who speaks Greek.

Upload a pic of the whole knife. I'm curious to see what it looks like.
