OT: My afternoon fun!

Glad to see that not everyone around here is anti-American, anti-War, and pro-Saddam (you'd get that impression if you ventured too far into ATOT - which is why I've been staying out of there lately except for the War news thread). You have my appreciation for what you did. 🙂

God bless America, and protect our troops from Saddam's WMDs (and non-WMDs).

You are a good man! Glad to see some patriotism for once.
Everytime the news networks show protests I just change the channel before I get too angry at them for supporting Saddam's regime.
I realize that nobody wants to go to war but sometimes we must, and those who oppose the choice are uninformed and ignorant.

Glad to see someone around here feels this way. I agree with titanmiller about getting so upset. I almost laugh at the people because they just don't get it. But its not a good laughter.

WHOO HOO!!! - a local station is actually going to show clips of the local "rally for America" rally I went to today! 😀 whoo hoo

I remember seeing the local fox station there but it looks like the local NBC station has tape too 😀

It's about time that the "pro-active"(it's hard for me to say pro war) folks get some airtime. I saw on the news yesterday about a few pro rallies going on, but it's the anti-war crowd that gets the most coverage. I guess they make the most noise, even though they are the minority, according to polls.

Well done CADkindaGUY !

I believe FoBoT was going to attend one in his area too 🙂

As happy as I am to see the coverage - I wish they would get their numbers straight - there were ~1000 people there (my estimate) but 1 station is saying "a couple hundred"
rolleye.gif
the local ABC station has reported "a thousand or more" but CBS and NBC keep reporting really low numbers:|

Oh and I deserve no "praise". I did what I feel was right. I support our mission in Iraq and felt like adding +1 to the head count was a way to actively support our Troops and Leaders. I hope the rest of you get the opportunity to express your support for our Troops in ANY way you can.

God Bless America and our Troops.

What is it in your mind that connects being anti-war with being pro Saddam?

Interesting about patriotism. I have flown the US flag outside my business everyday for years, at least 7 years. Having said that I strongly oppose any sort of anti flag burning amendment or restrictions. The flag is a symbol of our democracy, an icon if you will, nothing more, nothing less. To put draconian measures in place to "preserve" the honor of the piece of cloth is a definite contradiction to me.

When Sept 11 happened, suddenly there was a huge demand for flags, and you saw them everywhere. All the "patriots" came out of the woodwork it seems. These fairweather patriots soon retreated back into their standard mode while I still fly the flag everyday.

If being patriotic was as simple as flying the flag and saying yes to everything the President wants to do then democracy would be a whole lot easier to maintain. Unfortunately democracy is a lot more demanding than that and is messy and difficult to maintain. Unconditional unquestioning support of any official or action taken by those officials leads toward the demise of a democracy not towards a strengthening of it.

From the Beastie Boys:

In a World gone Mad

In a world gone mad it?s hard to think right
So much violence hate and spite
Murder going on all day and night
Due time we fight the non-violent fight

Mirrors, smokescreens and lies
It?s not the politicians but their actions I despise
You and Saddam should kick it like back in the day
With the cocaine and Courvoisier
But you build more bombs as you get more bold
As your mid-life crisis war unfolds
All you want to do is take control
Now put that axis of evil bullshit on hold
Citizen rule number 2080
Politicians are shady
So people watch your back 'cause I think they smoke crack
I don?t doubt it look at how they act

In a world gone mad it?s hard to think right
So much violence hate and spite
Murder going on all day and night
Due time we fight the non-violent fight

First the ?War On Terror? now war on Iraq
We?re reaching a point where we can?t turn back
Let?s lose the guns and let?s lose the bombs
And stop the corporate contributions that they're built upon
Well I?ll be sleeping on your speeches ?til I start to snore
?Cause I won?t carry guns for an oil war
As-Salamu alaikum, wa alaikum assalam
Peace to the Middle East peace to Islam
Now don?t get us wrong ?cause we love America
But that?s no reason to get hysterica
They?re layin? on the syrup thick
We ain?t waffles we ain?t havin? it

In a world gone mad it?s hard to think right
So much violence hate and spite
Murder going on all day and night
Due time we fight the non-violent fight

Now how many people must get killed?
For oil families pockets to get filled?
How many oil families get killed?
Not a damn one so what?s the deal?

It?s time to lead the way and de-escalate
Lose the weapons of mass destruction and the hate
Say ooh ah what?s the White House doin??
Oh no! Say, what in tarnation have they got brewing??!!!!???!!
Well I?m not pro Bush and I?m not pro Saddam
We need these fools to remain calm
George Bush you?re looking like Zoolander
Trying to play tough for the camera
What am I on crazy pills? We?ve got to stop it
Get your hand out my grandma?s pocket
We need health care more than going to war
You think it?s democracy they?re fighting for?

In a world gone mad it?s hard to think right
So much violence hate and spite
Murder going on all day and night
Due time we fight the non-violent fight

Couldn't have said it any better than that 🙂

I definitely agree that patriotism does not include blindly agreeing with everything the country's leaders tell you. However, blindly disagreeing with them because they happen to be of the opposite political party, criticizing them, and not offering an alternate solution (the only thing I've heard "peace" activists come up with is "more diplomacy"), seem to be common elements of the "peace" activist's rhetoric. I don't consider that patriotic.

pa·tri·ot·ic - adj : inspired by love for your country

That is what the dictionary defines as being patriotic. You can question the legitimacy of this war without being unpatriotic, pro-Sadaam or Anti-American. It really has frightened me the New McCarthyism that is starting to sprout up that anyone who has questions about this war is being labelled a traitor, a terrorist, etc. Did anyone stop to think that the questioning going maybe inspired by the love for their country and their support of the troops?

For the record before I am branded a traitor, terrorist, or Anti-American, I actually support the action being taken in Iraq. I can see both sides of this argument and see the validity of many of the points brought out. I am not happy with the way the administration has handled this in regards to the United Nations and I would have preferred that they would have gotten United Nations support, but that did not happen.

With that said, I think this should stay in ATOT where it belongs. We don't need fractures in this TeAm over delicate issues such as this. The only thing that ever seems to effect this TeAm is when the pressures of the outside world get to us. We don't need a repeat of what happened after 9/11 here.

For the record, I was never disagreeing with you. Maybe I came off a little strong in my response. I am truly sorry for that, and hope that no divisions will be caused by this. Now, I will not continue this argument, and let us just get back to crunching. 🙂

point taken.

I'll edit the post above.

If I was one of the troops I wouldn't be too concerned about the anti-war rallies...... I've seen pop music artists music tours across the country (UK) bring out more people than the anti-war protests across the UK have...... and you dont have to pay to go to them!!! 😛
