Whats the best remedy for a bad cough?

Over the counter? Home brews lets hear it.....

I have fought this since Wednesday and if I don't do something to stop this coughing I think I am going to die.....
 
see a doctor?

Wednesday...THE DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING....make an appointment to go see a doctor lol.....

And the local emergency room is the equivalent to going to the animal vet IMO....

And for the record I called about an appointment a week ago to get checked up and since I am not a "current" member at my doctor....Not been sick for 3 years I am considered a new patient and the first opening for "new patients is in JANUARY........lol

unfortunately, you will need to treat the underlying infection in order to stop the coughing.

most OTC cough medications don't work all that well.

There are other doctor's in your city I'm sure. Also, most places have some sort of walk in clinic too.

I am in a rural area where there are not 24 hrs clinics to walk into....

Right now that would be great as long as they are better then our local ER is....

Been sucking on so many cough drops that now they make me sick when I put them into my mouth......

Anyone know how to make the "hot tonic" with wiskey or whatever people talk about?

Desperate times call for desperate measures

In an emergency, I'd recommend Primatine Mist. It's over-the-counter, but it's like aeorsolized adrenaline, which is bad. It has some serious side effects for your heart.

It has some properties that cause bronchodilation, but I'd recommend something with guaifenesin first.

just drink the damn whiskey and get drunk.

that will help you sleep at night. Assuming you are not taking any other meds.

here I just go to the drugstore and buy some Neocitran. I don't know where you live so I am not sure if you have an equivalent.

I get bronchitis a couple times a year. The coughing will go away eventually. If your chest is hurting, try some IB or Alieve. The outside part of my lungs gets inflamed from all the coughing. I like Halls to help stop the coughing but there are tons of cough medicines out there. The doc has been giving me zpacks when I need them. The shitty part is that he always writes the RX for a week after I go to see him. By then everything is usually cleared up on its own.

It sucks but stick with it.
 
I spent about three hours in the Ocala, Fl. regional hospital's ER with my 3 yr old son on turkey day due to bronchitis. Poor little guy was coughing so badly the night before, that he was starting to throw up. It was hell trying to find a clinic, so I said fuck it and got him to the ER. They gave him a nebulizer with the meds in it and took a chest xray to see if he had an asthma attack or pneumonia, I guess. I got a steroid and some antibiotics for him and he seems to be doing really well now. Of course we were on vacation and I got to miss out on spending time with my in-laws, which really sucked (not!)

I hope you get better cuz this really sucks. By the way..get to a friggin doctor!

Uh, Bronchitis is an actual infection that requires antibiotics. If you know that's what it is for sure, get some help. Could develop into pneumonia.

Otherwise just drink some tea or something, keep the fluids moving. Standard stuff.

Is it a chest/wheezing cough or a throat cough?

Well after a what had to be one of the worst nights I ever spent trying to sleep in my life, I woke up at about 7 AM and felt like I got run over by a truck the pain under your rib cage after 3 days of coughing is unbelievable.... That #43 licor, tea and honey did manage to put me to sleep for awhile, but the mucus would build up so bad that I had no choice to wake up and cough it out....

So another neighbor sent over some "brew" in maraschino cherries and sauce that we made tea with and man did it go down smooth and proceeded to knock me out from around 8 AM this morning untill about 4 this afternoon.....

I asked the wife what was in it awhile ago and she smiled and said....Its moonshine......LOL never underestimate the resourcefulness of your neighbors!

Expense? Most doctors don't do shit but recommend over-the-counter meds anyway? Doctors are full of shit.
 
Well for an update.....I am still sick.....Went to a Doctor Monday morning.....He basically gave me free samples of Allergy medicine shit and sent me home....Had to post a update since thats pretty much EXACTLY what amdhunter said so here I set, still coughing up blackish green shit out of my lungs....

Irish its a chest cough.....Basically what it is is you set upright in a chair because there is no way you can lay down, and every 10 minutes or so you have a coughing fit and cough up greenish blackish shit then wait 10 minutes and repeat.....In between you blow yellowish look shit out of you nose for added entertainment......
