I would have to agree, might have been a ok idea for a site, but now every time it is brought up so will the shameless harvesting of emails he did.

You Sir have earned through one email what Tiger direct had to earn through long and hard hours messing people over....Enmity

Are you trying to get banned? You should probably edit that to be on the safe side. Also, why the response after such a long period? This thread has been dead since 2/16.

Hello all.... I am RAutrey from the site in question (hardfind.com) and would like to say a couple of things. First of all, this absolutely happened. There is no denying it and I will tell you straight up... It was not right. It was a huge mistake and IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN! There was a fundamental problem when HF came to be early this year. Getting the word out was extremely difficult. Wojo was left with a quandary and resorted to the actions he did because he honestly believed that when people saw what hf was and is about, they would not be upset about the spamming. It is obvious that this was a miscalculation.

Since this incident occured, I came onboard with hf and we changed the way we get the word out about the site. First it was a "grass roots" campaign asking folks to post stuff on hf via IM. We asked folks to post at hf in addition to the other sites they frequent. That being said, let me explain how we look at hf and its position in the community. We are not looking to corner the market on buy/sell/trade. We believe we can serve to provide an additional resource for the bst activity in the community.

Now we are doing reviews of products and several sites have been generous in their willingness to link our articles. We fully recognize that the spamming shortcut is not the way to go and it is only through hard work that we will be successful in establishing hf in the community. We are not looking to make a fast buck off of this site. Our service and tools are totally free and that is not ever going to change. We have recently incorporated advertising in the hopes of getting enough revenue to get dedicated hosting as our current host leaves a bit to be desired. We would also like to cover the cost of review parts. Wojo and I are currently financing everything that hf is out of our own pockets.

HF is here for three reasons:
1. Wojo busted his arse to develop it from the ground up.
2. We love being active in the enthusiast community.
3. We want to provide you with tools to bst online with the greatest of ease in addition to the great forums that are established.

Bottom line - It was wrong, we recognize that and have corrected it. It is with the greatest humility that I ask you to look past or initial mistakes and focus on the fact that we have corrected those mistakes and are truly doing this thing in the interest of the community.

Respectfully,

Rob

hmm, weird. I just got the spam yesterday, and was trying to figure out how my email address was gotten. Did a search for hardfind at anand and hardocp, and got this thread. Didn't even look at the date of the thread, but apparently promises of no longer being spammed have been broken from february...

Conscript - Are you certain that someone from hf sent you an email yesterday? If you would please forward the email to me at rautrey@hardfind.com I will address this issue immediately.

Thanks

If this is the email you received:

Dear Hardfind member,

I'm pleased to announce some major changes we went through since my last mailing over two months ago.

1. We successfully published our first two articles on Hardfind.com and they were:
a. Overclocking the ATi 9500 Pro
b. NVIDIA's GeForce FX 5600
Please check them both and let us know what your thoughts are. Both of them were a great success and dragged tons of traffic into our site greatly exposing items listed for sale by some of you.

2. We launched our own price comparison engine where you can find best prices on the web, please have a look: http://hardfind.pricegrabber.com/home_comp.php.
3. We are looking to move our website into dedicated hosting to serve you better as we are having constant problems with our current host.
4. We are going to give our members chance to win GeForce FX 5600 or 9600 Pro in the upcoming weeks so check back with us soon.

As always please let me know if you have any questions/concerns/suggestions.

Regards,
Wojo Wietecha

If you would like to stop receiving future updates please go to http://www.hardfind.com/members.asp and update your settings.

This is an email sent only to registered users of hardfind. We send site updates about once a quarter. If you don't want to receive news updates from hf you need to deselect the "news" block in your user settings at hf. This is not spam. It is a solicited email that once again is sent to registered users who have the news block checked in their profile settings. If you have never signed up for an account at hf and received the email above in error, please let me know. If you have a user account at hf and would like to have the account deactivated. We can also do that sat your request.

Guys, i have been notified about this thread and did some digging, here is what i found:
Conscript (Geoff M.) from Waltham, MA registered with Hardfind on May 16th, 2003 at 10:04:54 AM PST using attbi.com's email address, has news flag checked.
Email address has been validated meaning the user received email validation and clicked the appriopriate link to activate the account.

Now Geoff, you registered with Hardfind yourself, checked the News flag to receive update, gotten one since you registration and now you're running around calling me a spammer?!?

Regards,
Wojo Wietecha.

Even if he did register, you still spammed a large population of the heatware community.

I honestly don't know how I ever registered for your site since I really don't think I've ever heard of it. And I RARELY use my main address signing up for sites, let alone ones that I don't plan on frequent. However, I guess I must have. I wasn't completely sure if I had or I hadn't so I did a search first in the forums that I regularily frequent to see if anyone else got this, looked for the word "hardfind", and came across this thread. Didnt' check the date, but whatever. SO I apologize for posting this in the last week, but it looks like you spammed me in February anyway from taking my heat information, so let's just say I was four months late to the party. So yes, you are a spammer. But no, you didn't do in the last week to me. And I will immediately remove myself from your site.
