OT: LMAO at inside temps! ( room temps )

Well anyway, I was off at work for the day, ( I work at Home Depot ) and I come back home and go to check on my computers. The temp here hit just over 95 degrees ( Here in Chicago ) so I wanted to check on how mu computers were copeing. OMG! I walked into my room and was driven back by the oppressive heat! OMFG that was hot!

For all you who do not know, I run web servers, e-mail, gaming, and SETI boxes here in a 13 x 14 room. I do have a crapload of computers, and the recent additions have not helped the situation. I was cleaning up this weekend, and blew the 60 amp sub breaker that I installed for this room, so you know just how much power is flowing in here ( load was the vacumm rated @ 12 amps )

Well anyway, I came home, and I tossed a deck thermomitoer ( you know, those plastic ones everyone keeps out on the deck? ) into the room just to see how hot it was. It peaked at over 120 and that was with me opening the windows. It was frigging hot!!

anyone know of any ways to cool it down big time? I am trying to avoid an aux window AC unit, but I can do that if I have no other option.

Anyone ever tried hooking up a water cooling unit to, say a 1/3 hp sprinkler pump, and 11 or so computers? Anyone got any tips?

Hmm.. maybe I should hang a thermometer in my basement and check the temps in here too.

with a room that small.....and all those computers cranking.......you need a window AC unit.......i think in the back of your mind , you know that is the only way to go.....and keep everything from melting...😉

try a couple cheap box fans... and treat the room like a giant computer case.... keep a couple on the flooor towards the back and put one or two blowing out the window?

You could always get one of the units they put in those commercial refrigerated trucks. That might help a little... 😉

At least get one of those twin 8 to 10 inch window fans to add to the window. It can blow either direction...and you can also get a thermostatically controlled model. May not be an AC unit, but blowing 80 degree air into a 120 degree room has to help!

(It does at mine...at TON! 😀)

For goodness sakes DO NOT EAT CHOCOLATE in there!

Just want to make sure you don't get melted chocolate all over your fingers and keyboard 😀

You could put a big fan in your room, and put thermal paste on the walls. That should cool it down 🙂

I was thinking you need to make sure you are using ASIII, every single degree helps! 😛

You should get one of those ventilation systems that they have at restaraunts above where they cook..
that suck hot air up and vent it out
then get some 1mx1m delta fans, will be loud as hell, but hey... it's worth it 😛

or perhaps you can just worry about you....
get yourself a nice bodysuit with a liquid layer
keep it in the freezer
whenever you go into the room, where the suit 😛

Thanks for the replies guys 🙂

I think I am stuck buying a window unit. ( great, another circuit I have to install ) Nice and cool 78ish now with the whole house fan on. I hope it stays cooler tommorow so I can figure out what I can do.

Go out and get some biiiig blocks of aluminium or copper and use AS epoxy to stick them to all the outside walls of the room! 😀

Also make sure there is no sun shining into the room, cos that will cause it to heat up!

Jez thats hot!:Q

If its 80F (27C) outside & 120F+(49C) inside then certainly fans will help bring it down ,though you're gonna need a lot of air flow to cope with that number machines!:Q.

How about 2 2ft fans blowing air in the room & 2 blowing out the window? (bit noisey though😉) (like Corsairpro said)

Btw can't you get solar panels at a reasonable price?Would seem to be worth it for a hot place like the USA?

LOL 🙂

I was having the same trouble with my home computer rack. The temperature inside my "server" room was 10-15 degrees F higher than the rest of the house.

I broke down and bought a small window unit AC. THis brought the temperatures in the room down significantly and helped to drop the "ambient" temperatures in all my computer cases by at least 5 degrees F.

I got the AC from Sears.com for $110 shipped. I think it will be a worthwhile investment just by reducing temperature stress on all my components!

air conditioning, the cornerstone of civilization!

😛

well, at least in the south 😀

WTH! thats to COLD! you need floor heaters, lots of um, aimed directly at the machines, that will help.

Ugg I know what you mean. I have a window air conditioning unit, but its cheap and the radiator likes to ice up, thereby rendering it useless. When I got home from work it was deathly hot in my room. My main machine, a 1GHz Athlon OCed to 1.3 was running at 50 C! (Know that it has never, ever, ever gotten above 44 before) My AC has been running for 2 hours and my room is still 82 F. Ugg.

I decided to pick up a 5000 btu AC unit for this room. I am going to put it through the wall into the attic space over the garage. ( will not put through the window beacuse this room faces the street. ) The problem is my attic gets to 130+ degress. So now I have to put in a big huge attic fan too. What a project. I would rather spend the $$ on computer stuff, but this must be solved before my carpeting melts 😛

Tahnks guys!
