Well, like a good little student, I've been preparing for a few weeks (what should be done in a matter of months or years), and have even taken a couple of simulated practice tests, to prepare for the terribly fun experience that shall take place tomorrow. Anyway, my best wishes go to those others who get to partake in this excellent adventure. Good luck. 😎

I only took the SAT once as an 8th grade student in an attempt to get into an advanced program. I got 560 on the math and 330 on the verbal for a total of 890. Not too bad for 8th grade especially on the math.

In Michigan the required college entrance exam is the ACT instead of the SAT. On the ACT scores range from 0(I assume)-36 with 30 being the mark needed for National Merit status. After two attemts at the test both rendering me a score of 29 I decided it wasn't worth another 4 hours of my life. I was quite consistent though scoring 29 on english, reading, and science and getting 30 on the math in my second attempt at the test. Scores were more varried on my first attempt ranging from 25-33.

I had to take both the SAT, and ACT, as well as some other Texas only college entrance test, to get into college in Texas. I got a 31 total on the ACT....because I scored a 35 on the math(only missed one question because I got cos, mixed up with sin, sure wish they'd a let me use a calc. I'd a made a 36) and somewhere around 28 on all the rest, they sent me some kind of recognition bs on the math score. on the SAT if I remember right I got just a hare under 1100, as when I took it I were un-edumicated in talkin' inglish I scored all of one(1) point over passing in the english portion. Good luck, and remember you still have another chance to take it again next year to help you get into colleges with more scholarships(it's funny how the higher your SAT the more scholarships you get, I only had one scholership, and all I had to do pretty much was graduate, it's nice when the company your parents work for offer $2500 a year for 4 years when you can maintain a 2.5 average)
 
i took the ACT three times and got 34, 34, 35 on the reading comprehension section.
everyone seems to hate that part, its pretty simple if you ask me. all the answers are right there in front of you.

my math is definitely lacking. i barely escaped remedial math in college, i made a 18, 19, 21 IIRC
i ended up with a 28 overall on the third try and got my dorm room paid for my freshman year that i lost the next year, b/c i didnt keep my grades up.

I must not be very smart, because I had to google that one (doh!). 😱

Oh, and lots of you guys are discussing the SAT, which is different from the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test / National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, IIRC). The PSAT/NMSQT only matters in the area of National Merit Scholarships when taken in the Junior year (11th grade), though it can be taken earlier (I took it last year also). As some of you have pointed out, the SAT can be taken just about any time, and just about as many times as you like (fortunately they keep only your highest score 🙂).
