Man, I'll never buy another promise product again.

Two years ago, I purchased the Raid 5 Supertrak IDE Raid controller. The card worked great ( as long as it wasn't booting from the raid device)...a.nd I even had 128 Megs of Cache added onto the card. The system has been running solid on a UPS for two years...every once in a while, the raid would misfire and have to be reallocated (not rewritten, or reinitialized...just delete the array...reboot, and add it again.....promise bios hiccups).

but for what I needed, it worked great. I just wanted something to put my important projects on and have a backup other then tape in case of a failure.

Well, two days ago, when I woke up, the machine was beeping over and over. So, after troubleshooting a little.....I figured out I had a serious problem, and called promise.

Promise Tech Support:
Remove the ram and replace it with the stock rma that came with it

Me:
OK....Still beeping.

Promise Tech Support:
Disconnect all devices, and reboot

Me:
Ok....Still beeping

Promse Tech Support:
Sorry, it's dead.

Me:
Well, what the hell happened. No power spikes....no abuse. It just did it overnight

Promise tech Support:
Sometimes, those cards just die. Sorry.

Warranty is long gone, as is my $299 investemnt. Yah, I can ebay one for a bit cheaper, but man. <^> them. They'll never see another dime of mine.

Sounds like that too me as well!

I believe the code is ID ten Tee, or ID10T on the keyboard.
