OT: GUYS, I'M REALLY DESPERATE AND NEED HELP!!

Hi!

First of all, I know that his does not really belong here but I hope u guys can help me:

I wanted tu upgrade my PC as CPDN was just 2 slow on it.

That's what I bought:

Shuttle AN35N-Ultra
2x 256 MB Kingston Hyperx 3200
Antec TruePower 430
ThermalTake Volcano 12 Extreme
AMD Athlon XP +2500

MY PROBLEM:

The only way I can get that combo to boot is when I set the BIOS to fail-safe. My XP is then an +1100, the FSB is 100, and so on. As soon as I change something in the BIOS (and if it is just one 101 on FSB) it won't even POST and I got to clear my CMOS with jumper. The nforce2 trick with insert or delete while boot doesn't work either. CPU temp is 30 °C.

I changed the RAMs and put them in all slots = no change.
Put in a 133 RAM = no change.
Took all out of the board but gfx, CPU and floppy = no change.
Changed gfx = no change.

The only thing left now is to change the CPU to my old Palomino Xp +2000.

Guys, I really need your help. I'm writing this from a 28.8k modem on my friends machine. While I was changing the gfx I broke one small transistor, so my gfx is crap now (GeForce Ti4200). So this has been a very bad day for me and it all happened in the name of DC. That's why this belongs here!

Thx guys, I count on u!

BMC

Is the mobo mounted in the case?
I'd try it outside the case, making sure nothing conductive can touch the mobo top or bottom.
I've had your kind of troubles before related to mounting in the case, a little screw sitting on top or under the mobo etc..
Of course, could be a broken component on the mobo too. 🙁

Problem is most likely the MB. There has been other people reporting the same problem on the forums.

There have been many reports of problems with kingston ram and that Motherboard. try these setting.
Set FSB to 166 and memory to 100%, set all voltages to Auto and timings to 8-3-3-3
If it won't run at those setting you should think about a different brand of ram
Geil seems to work well with that Motherboard.

I'am running this board with a 2600xp and kingston pc3500 ram no problems, at 220 FSB. It might just be a bad Board.

Thx so far guys!!

Set FSB to 166 and memory to 100%, set all voltages to Auto and timings to 8-3-3-3

I just did that, didn't change anything! 🙁

The kingston I ordered I supposed to be a 5-2-2-2 ... Do u really think that this is causing the trouble? I mean I also tried with an old 133 RAM and it didn't work either.

(I don't think that GEIL would work good with this mobo as it has a max voltage for RAM of 2,7 which is kinda low for those voltage hungry GEIL ones IMHO)

Good find, Freewolf. Definitely sounds like it may be memory.

NewEgg is good about returns ... I've just about switched 100% to them for that reason. /unpaid promo/ 😛

Thx Freewolf

Meanwhile I found some forums (due to the help of amdxborg Thx man!! ) that report of heavy probs if combining AN35N-Ultra and Kingstony HyperX. But due to a very stupid trick I managed to finally boot that thing. Check that out:

- Clear CMOS
- put in my good ol' 133 generic RAM
- boot
- enter BIOS, load optimized settings
- boot
- go into expert mode, set latency to 7-3-3-2.5
- save and boot, then power off
- remove generic RAM and put in Kingston

--> this seems to work. My CPU is recognized as a 2500+ and all the RAM seems to work. But an FSB of just 267 will crash it again ... so in the end I guess I'm stuck with getting some other RAM

So I guess for now that prob is kinda solved, but I'm far away from being satisfied!! Thx all!! That's why I posted this in here! 7 replies in notime while 0 on the motherboard forum 😀

Thx

Christian

hmmm... I have two sticks of hyperx PC3000 running in my Asus Nforce2 mobo @ 350mhz ddr (2x175) 6-2-2-2
Doesn't come close to the TwinMos ram in my Epox Nforce2 running 420mhz ddr (2x210) 3-2-2-2
Gives me some HAR WU's in 1:55 and LAR units in about 2:12.
Running both at 1:1 ratio of course 😉

latest new:

I was running memtest-86 for some time on it and it didn't give me any errors. That's the good news.

Bad news: I can't get that damn WinXP-Pro-Slipstreamed-SP1-Rollup-1 working on it. Installation was all fine, but when it is supposed to fire up the first time ... it hangs. Strangely enough it works in safe mode :consfused;

If this board isn't gonna work within the next days it's gonna be the darn most expensive frisbee I ever had ...

:Q Let's hope you frisbee it back to NewEgg than...
It's always nice to hear fellow TA'ers helping a team mate..
Unfortunatly this board wasn't what you expected from it.. Your going to use it
for a DC project so it has to be a good OC right! 😉
Good luck!

Check to see if you need a BIOS update

if your missing multiplyer settings in the BIOS, it's an old version.

I Won't do shuttle boards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too complicated to set up !

Still have one here that isn't running and if you want It you can have it for Half price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want something decent, buy a good board.....ASUS, Gygabyte, ABit, Intel,
Something that doesn't require a DOCTORATE DEGREE to set up.

I have had no problems with my AN35 and 2500+, but I'm using Corsair ram. I did have a few issues when I first set up my A7N8X dlx using Corsair ram. But it all worked out. sometimess it's good to just step away from it for a while.

I'll take you up on that half price offer... YHPM.

Almost all the computer problems these days are RAM problems. Or Power Supply problems. But usually because of CHEAP crap. Time to go to crucial and spec out some ram for that Shuttle. Shouldn't have any problems after that. Not only that but they are usually cheaper then Hyper X and Crucial has a really good life time support on RAM. Another problem I see is people using too much force installing the CPU FAN. Or Slipping with the Screwdriver and dinging the traces on the MOBO. Ouch!!!!

Good Luck!

Thx for all your answers ppl!

Latest News:

- I flashed with the latest BIOS but that didn't help at all.

- I managed to install WinXP-Pro with slipstreamed SP1, but it refuses to start other than safe mode, though it gives me no errors whatsoever in safe mode

- Win2k failed

- Win98SE failed

Visiting my local dealer today and try to borrow some other RAMs. BTW, what is that NewEgg u all talk about? A shop? Remember: I'm from Germany! 😀
