This is my first time putting a computer together and I have to admit the first time I started it up I seriously didnt think that it was going to work but it does. I am so happy now. Windows XP installation is almost complete, guess what I install first.............Seti@home of course.:p

Edit: I might have to RMA the modem I bought as it seems to be defective, with that I will have to drag WUs from another computer to keep it fed tonight.
Also, this motherboard has a passivly cooled northbridge and it gets HOT. I hope that doesnt keep me from being able to oc to a decent level.

I think I'm going to stick a small piece of wire out of each riser with the washer threaded on it, then make sure the wire goes through the hole and pull the wire out? Or is there a better way?

You mean those little washers the same size as the screws that you use to mount the mobo?
Usually a dark red color?

I generally either just throw them away or put them on the screw before putting it into the hole and screwing it in.

Thanks, I was thinking that they go underneth of the motherboard onto the risers, but then I thought that would be nearly impossible, so i'm just going to put them on top.

Yeah, that's what I usually do - between the screw that goes into the riser and the top of the mobo.

Another question, how much force does it take to get the clip for the heatsink on? I am having a crazy ammount of trouble getting it on. I am thinking about going out and building a tool to do it.

They are washers... washers go on the screw.

Don't they have shop classes anymore :p ;)

Depending on the model heatsink differs, however the majority of the clip on type, have a slot for a flathead screwdriver. Use this to carefully ease the clip over the hooks on the socket.

Of course I know what a washer is. ;) I just wondered if they went under the motherboard (between motherboard and risers) or on top (between screw head and motherboard) Its too late now because I choose the latter.

I was just being a smarta$$ ;) Anyway, your heatsink should have installation instructions which show you how. You do need to be careful though, as it is easy to chip the core of Athlon XP chips if not aligned perfectly and forced on.

Good luck to you! :D

I sure hope I didnt dammage the processor or the motherboard as I was putting the side that should go on second on first! My screwdriver sipped once but I dont think I dammaged the motherboard. After nearly 45minuets of doing it the wrong way I looked at the picture agian and got it on the first time the correct way. Now that I know how to do it i'm not too scared, I hope I didnt hurt anything.

Hi titanmiller.
Ihave an old credit card I put on the mobo and push it up against the socket.
If my screwdriver slips, it hits the credit card.
Credit cards are hella tuff.
Congrats on your first build!!!
Keep us up to date on how it's going.
