Hey, I just installed Red Hat 8.0 on my Dell P4 and I'm just about to install DF on this bad boy. I ordered Running Linux 4th edition, but buy.com still hasn't shipped me my copy yet. :frown: I'm not even sure if it's out yet. Anyways, are there any good websites where I can learn the basics about linux? I know of linuxnewbie.org, but please recommend some others. 😎

😎

have fun, i like rh8 it is quite nice 😉

DF is nearly identical on linux as winders (text client)

Congrats on Linux. My Linux box mainly sits around and runs SETI cause that's the only thing I can do on it!

I couldn't even do that much on it! 🙁 Good luck with your linux install!

You should also know about the Linux Documentation Project. To start look under Guides and "The Linux Cookbook: Tips and Techniques for Everyday Use", or the older but still useful "Installation and Getting Started Guide" or "The Linux Users' Guide."

It dependes on what you want to do with it. Do you want a desktop with apps and games and stuff? Do you want to start building a server with a web site, mail server or build an application? Lots of different things you can do

Doh, I tried to get the side buttons on my mouse working and screwed up and borked the mouse controls. Had to format and reinstall. 😱 I guess I want to start with just running a desktop, using the command line, figuring out how to install and configure stuff etc.. then move onto servers and the such. And I'll be sure to check out the linux documentation project, thanks for the link. 🙂
