I'm a DJ and I put compilations together for when I mix club parties...

These compilations usually take a couple of days to make, if not weeks.

Its all house, trance mixes, hard NYC traxx

My question is, I put a lot of time into this collection as a DJ

Can I sell copies of my compilations, since I DJ? These are not mearly dupes from shelf cds... these are scouted songs.

Wanted to get the opinions of the community and the mods.

[3 years - Almost 80 CDs] ;)

You wrote about hard NYC traxx. Well there's DJ's that sell their CDs on the streets in Manhattan so I don't really see why you wouldn't be able to do the same, like sell compilations for around $10 per cd. Copyright infringement stuff can get in the way though. I say you pop down to a small cozy music store in the city and ask, the people in these stores are really knowledgeable and damn cool. Gotta love nyc :)

btw, are you just mixing or remixing as well? i think distribution has a lot to do with which one of these you are doing, but then again i could be completly wrong :D

They are raw mixes which I use to mix live at a party.

Do you guys think my time in putting these compilations together as a DJ justifies me trying to sell them?

one compilation goes through a review of over ~70 songs before the final 8-12 songs are picked.

[yes, there are that many club, house, trance songs in about a 3 - 4 week period!]
