Just replaced an Athlon XP 1900 with an Athlon XP 2600 (Thoroughbred)
Seems to be running fine (temp's at 49 C at full load) except the max speed I'm getting is 1.9 ghz when I think it should be 2.13 ghz.
It's running in an ASUS A7V333 mobo with 512 mb PC 2700 RAM with BIOS version 10.17.
Any ideas on how to get the extra 200mhz?

It came from PC World. Do you think they would dare ??

go into Bios and make sure it is recognizing properly. I.e. right bus speed and multiplier. I ususally recommend to people to clear cmos after a processor change to make sure no problems.

Andy check out Biostar for a board. They are making some realy good stuff for cheap these days. A VIG Pro is a nice board for cheap. Good quality. A breeze to put together.

Are you having to overclock to get to 1.9GHZ? You may have the board set to 100FSB rather than 133. Some boards have a 133 jumper. However if you had the 1900 on there prior it should already be there.

OK so are you trying to overclock to 2.13? the default speed for the 2600 IS 1.9GHZ. FOr the 1900 it is 1.6GHZ. maybe I read wrong earlier?

It's supposed to be a Thoroughbred.
If I set the FSB to 133:33 it runs at 1.54 ghz and if I set it to 166:33 I get 1.92 ghz.
I thought the actual speed of a 2600 was 2.13 ghz, or am I completely wrong??

You also have to check if you have the 266 og 333 version of 2600+, they should be out there in both versions.
It sounds like a 333 version :p
